Other suggestions for Broadway shows

Can't get tickets to The Producers- Any ideas for next best(other than Phantom and Le Miz)?

Larry Jun 2nd, 2001 08:04 AM

Carol, sounds like you like musicals. After the 3 you mentioned there is a huge drop off. there are a couple of revivals that may be ok. If we were going now the only other one I would book in advance would be The Full Monty. But don't give up on Producers. It is now my 2nd favorite (after Le Miz). If you are willing to pay a little xtra, go to a broker. You won't regret it. Try ravetickets.com 888-706-7600 or we used to get from something called Golden Lebangs at 212-944-8910. Unfortunately many of the other newer musicals are terrible. We recently saw Copenhagen (a real bore) and Contact (cute, but forgettable). Have fun. Larry

Carol, I forgot another play. We also recently saw The Alergist's Wife. It was a cute comedy.

I'll disagree with the previous poster on three things:
1. You will pay a LOT extra, not a little extra, if you want tickets for The Producers!
2. True, there is only one The Producers. But,there are a lot of other quality musicals playing now, and there is not a big dropoff after the three mentioned.
3. Contact is definitely worth seeing...but only if you like dance.
Assuming you want a musical, I would choose either Contact or one of these four (in alphabetical order): Cabaret, Chicago, Full Monty, Kiss Me Kate.
If you're looking for a non-musical, then it's Proof.

Going to a matinee in mid-June. any idea which musicals might be available at TDF?
Thanks.

Howard Jun 3rd, 2001 05:27 AM

Star, there's a good chance that you'll find most of the musicals at half-price--NOT The Producers, The Lion King, Aida, Annie Get Your Gun (probably not availble before June 22 when Reba McEntyre leaves, but probably after that date). There's a chance that most of the others will be available.

I'm surprised no one mentioned " A Class Act". Terrific music, supeb lyrics, and the best ensemble on Broadway.

Do you think any of the following will be available for half price this weekend at the TKTS booth: Proof, Contact, Chicago, Caberet, Kiss Me Kate?

Howard Jun 4th, 2001 08:38 AM

There is a chance that any one of them (or several) MIGHT be up. I suggest you go to the TKTS booth in the World Trade Center on Friday, since that one has Saturday matinee tickets available the day before. However, keep in mind that if that one doesn't have any of the ones you mentioned, there's still a chance that one of more might be available the next day at the TKTS booth at Duffy Square (Times Square at 47th Street). Just get in line there at at 9-9:15 a.m. for the matinee. It opens at 10.
