OT: Do sneakers go with khakis?

Well, I normally wear them with jeans, but don't want to pack the heavy material, so am thinking of just bringing khakis.

So, would sneakers (predominantly white) match with khakis (off white, tan color).

seetheworld Oct 1st, 2004 05:55 PM

Yup, I think khakis and white sneakers are a nice look (I like keds myself for short outings, otherwise I use New Balance).

This reminds of the following fashion question:

Is it appropriate to wear an ascot with a henweigh?

Whats a henweigh? About 5 pounds.
(feathers and all)

I never knew there was another choice? :_
However in Europe, I suggest topsider type shoes.

seetheworld Oct 1st, 2004 06:02 PM

he,he,he, bob_brown :D

If travrl is not a troll, he knows there is no problem as he's asking on the US forum.

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:17 PM

Thanks for the opinion seetheworld. I think it looks fine myself. My wife sort of gave it a crossed eyed look, so I thought I'd ask.

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:20 PM

cc, believe me, I'm no troll. :)

Honest question and I'll be in California.

Just didn't want to look geeky as I've never worn sneakers and khakis together. Was always sneakers/jeans or loafers/khakis.

Marilyn Oct 1st, 2004 06:27 PM

Go on, travelinandgolfin, throw caution to the winds! Live it up! Everyone knows we dress funny out here in California anyway.

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:29 PM

:)

Ok, now you're embarrassing me. :)

Believe me, I have no fashion sense at all. I come from Hawaii. T-shirt and shorts every day.....

LoveItaly Oct 1st, 2004 06:29 PM

Sneakers and khakis will be just fine in California. Tell you wife not to worry. I live in California and believe me just because you are "checking this out" means you will be better dressed than a lot of the locals. With all due respect to the locals of course.

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:34 PM

:D

Marilyn Oct 1st, 2004 06:34 PM

I'm a local and I resemble that remark. (Groucho?)

Seriously, if you are going to be doing normal tourist activities, I think you can dress just as you do in Hawaii, weather permitting. I live in the San Francisco area, and I know plenty of guys who wear T-shirts and shorts most of the time. Dinner in a nice restaurant, ok, you need to dress it up a bit, but otherwise...

Sorry, didn't mean to embarrass you! I live with a man who does not own a suit. These fine points would never occur to him. :-D

Scarlett Oct 1st, 2004 06:37 PM

Now if you were a girl, I would suggest my favorite sneaker slides :)
in white or black..
travelinandgolfin, have a good time!! and remember, wives almost always give their husbands cross eyed looks ..giggle~

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:38 PM

hehe...no offense taken. I'd love to go with the T-shirt/shorts, but looks like the temp is going to be in the 50s-60s where I'm going, hence the need for long pants. YUCK!

travelinandgolfin Oct 1st, 2004 06:40 PM

Scarlett....I will take that to heart!! :)

She's a doll. Though she did tell me to walk at least 10 feet behind her.... ;)

cigalechanta Oct 1st, 2004 06:41 PM

My real answer is here and on the Europe forum. Do not worry what you wear, as long as it is decent, clean, and you are a nice person, you will draw nice people to you.

coccinelle Oct 1st, 2004 08:12 PM

True, in this country, whites are acceptable.

Tandoori_Girl Oct 1st, 2004 08:51 PM

No, no, no. No to sneakers with khakis. It is way too cold for khakis unless you're in Washington DC. And definitely NO to predominately white sneakers. Do you have olive green? Navy?

Stephanie Oct 2nd, 2004 12:17 AM

Sneakers are the ugliest form of footwear that there is, wear some loafers it looks classier.
