OSB, I really enjoyed your trip report, am looking forward to our next trip this September.

Having just returned from 15 days in the Yucatan, it was great to read that the Dolphin serves ceviche, I practically lived on that stuff in Mexico and since Zelo's is no more (and I did not like it last few times anyway), we'll give the Dolphin a try. Don't read too much about that place.

Sorry to hear about the poor service at Coconuts, we had that same experience two years ago, but gave it one final try last year and it had improved.

So glad you and your son had such a fun, active trip.

ty starrsville, that's very kind of you.

Jamie99: I have a picture of the ceviche to back up my post - just haven't had time to load them anywhere as yet. Do keep checking!

I DID send an email to the editors to try to place this in the Hawaii section. Actually, my posts almost never end up where they're supposed to be.

When I search on my own name, it usually does not show my posts. I'm sure it's my fault, but I don't know why. I find the info I want my clicking on people's names, mine included.

Maybe that's why I never really know what's go'in the heck on on this board, but I kinda prefer it that way, sometimes.

I really don't think we need a 'clean up' - I'd much prefer a 'make up'.

Enjoy the tiara. It is yours to keep. No one left to pass it on to.

OSB--ALOHHHHH-HAA!! How perfect is this!!?? Faina just emailed me to check out her Las Vegas trip report, so I "opened" Fodors ...and saw YOUR report at #1.

I recall when you were planning this. Now, you came, you saw, you conquered the Kalalau trail and assorted other places. You've inspired me to try that trail--still on a "will do sometime" list.

Thanks for the details. There's always more to do and learn. I'll be there again in September and boy, am i ever in the mood now!

Did you get a chance to stroll south along the beach from Islander, o to the nearby Kukui Heiau ? If so--did you love that view ? If not--another reason to return!!

Gld to red your report of Princeville Stables. We used them 9 yrs ago and had a very snooty "trail leader," which soured us on the place. Glad to hear you had a great time, as we'd wondered who to use in September. Sounds like you'd recommend them?

Now to search for the BI segment of your report.

Mahalo!!

CaliNurse: No, we spent very little time at the hotel, so we missed the heiau. Wasn't even aware it was even there - with all my planning, how did I miss that??

So, maybe I WILL be able to catch it next time - sure hope so!

I was a little apprehensive as we based our reservation at Princeville totally on Shauna's friendliness. She could be an angel.

However, when I checked my Blue book, it wasn't ranked very well at all.

We went anyway and, yes, I would recommend it! We found that we don't ALWAYS agree with the BB, though I think it's a good guide.

Also, I believe Princeville probably read the reports and tried to beef up their trip to change the reputation.

However, I'm big on doing 'different' things - not the same ones, so if I were you I'd check the reports closer to time and maybe see something different with
another company.

Thanks for your reply, OSB.
Ah--wishful thinking--if we could get Shauna (your angel) for a guide, it would be worth it. You're right, I'll wait 'til closer, and see if there are any new reviews/feedback here. Am considering Silver Falls Ranch too, as it's also N Shore area (Kilauea) and we're staying in Princeville this time.
The heiau is actualy on the property of neighboring Lae nani condos, a couple minutes walk south along the beach from Islander. We walked under a full moon, after a few drinks at Islander's bar, on way back to Lae nani. The heiau is on a small hill, up a narrow, poorly marked , unlit path, and as we weren't exactly seeing straight it was quite an adventure. But so worth the tripping , to see that wide open ocean, and feel the sea wind, under a full moon.

I love the assorted CHARACTERs in your TR--what a range of temperaments!! Angels, writers, overzealous TSA agents, etc. Whew!!

All ya gotta do is ask for Shauna, if you want her - maybe she won't be on another vacation herself! Be sure to ask if she remembers us!

As for the characters, I like getting to know people - even if it's just a little bit.

You know, I just thought of another little aside for the BI TR!

Sorry OSB, but none of the original owners want the tarnished crown.

Perhaps Svill and Cali can fight for it, although Cali does know twice as much about the hellhole as sville pretends to or googles about. Yeah, come to think of it, best to pass it on to nurse ratchet, she mo bettah and made us laugh. We really did miss the old bird! Sincerely.
Ciao

I'm sorry you are so bitter. I really am. I don't pretend to try to prefer one person over another here, just try to tow the line here, which is not always easy.

starrsville will probably be one of the first to tell you that I don't always agree with her - I surely don't always understand her, but she probably can say the same of me, so where are we if we sit here throwing stones at one another?

I come here to play, to feel good, to share and to learn from others' experiences. I thought that was what this board was all about.
Sorry if you have another agenda.

It really was nice knowing you. You can be alot of fun when in the mood. Aloha.

Dear OSB
Please dont call me bitter-that is just unkind, and don't insult iamq and iceeu'2. They - we have left this forum for a very good reason, and that just happens to be the shennanigans of your friend.

I am insulted and hurt that you choose not to read and see what is right there.

We however are not bitter, we just gave up trying to have fun in the midst of gameskeepers that manipulate those around them.

I have only spoken to you kindly and offered you the most sincere advice. I have congratulated you on fantastic life journeys. I have always been friend and never foe.

We shared the joys of an island we love openhearted and openarmed. We gave you the tiara.

To call me bitter? That's just not right.

Like I said, and we all agree.....

Aloha

Thanks, OSB. We'll see if Shauna, or your guide Eileen, are available in September.

When we went in '98, the guide was really something. Dtr's friend didn't handle her horse as well as dtr did , and the guide kept loudly, snobbily (a word?) comparing their riding skills As we retunrned, we passed a group where everyone was laughing and enjoying themnselves--we were jealous. Too bad one negative can color your impression of a place for years.

There's so much info in your TR, will study it before we go in Sept. Mmmmai tais, tho' my tropical drink fav is the Tropical Itch

Glad to hear about good mahi mahi, etc, at Coconut Mktplace. Last time there--2005-it had a feel of "seen better days" as if it needed a new patina, so hopefully it's been spiced up a bit.

Let us know when you receive the necklace!!

I am glad you guys are posting all the details as I might go to Hawaii later this year.

I will be very hesitant to post my questions as not to cause another bru-ha-ha with Fodorites arguing like on this thread.

OSB,

Thanks for the reply, will keep an eye out for any pictures. Just love ceviche, especially the mixto with fish, shrimp, octopus and sometimes conch if in season.

CaliNurse, when in September will you be on Kauai? We will be at Marriott (in Lihue) Sep. 16-23, still looking for good airfares.

Thanks for the support, guys.

As a matter of fact, Steve called from Kauai this weekend leaving a message on my machine - just reassuring me the necklace was coming along nicely and I'd be receiving it soon.

OSB, do you recall the name of the shop where you found (or were"guided" to) Steve? Is it a jewelry shop at the P'ville shopping center?

Jamie, we'll be on Kauai from Sept 14 thru 19th (too short!) staying at condo in Princeville. You'll probably head north at least one day of your trip. Perhaps a mini gtg?
If you're comfortable with it, post your email here; I'll write back, so as not to get "off topic" on this thread.
Belle, I asked Faina to come wtih me to Oahu and Kauai, but the dates didn't work for her. Wanna help me twist her arm?
