Hi Michael, try this list
http://www.jewishdc.org/
I've only been to synagogues in the suburban DC area so I can't think of a specific one downtown. I think they might be in the not quite downtown areas, more like Georgetown or Woodley Park Area, but this site for the DC Federation should be a good starting point

THANK YOU... I DON'T KNOW THE DC AREA AT ALL. IF I CAN STAY IN A NICE HOTEL IN SUBURBAN DC (WHICH MAY BE CLOSER TO ORTHODOX SYNAGOUES AND KOSHER RESTAURANTS) THAT WOULD BE OK, ASSUMING IT WON'T TAKE THAT LONG TO GET THE SITES ... THANK YOU

Michael, there are 2 orthodox synagogues in DC - Kesher Israel on 2801 N Street, NW and Ohev Sholom on 1600 Jonquil Street. Kesher Israel would be your better bet, I believe. I think it is the more central one. However, DC is short on kosher restaurants. Most are located in Montgomery County, MD, particularly in the Silver Spring area, as well as Rockville. The website for the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations (www.ou.org) and www.kosherdelight.com should help you out.

Michael,
Kesher is in Georgetown & I have heard good things about it. Don't know which hotels are close, but you could use Yahoo Yellow Pages to figure that out.
The only kosher restaurant in the city proper is in the DC/JCC which is in the Dupont Circle area. There is also a kosher Deli/casual restaurant in the suburbs called Max's that you could get to via the Metro red line. It would be a few blocks walk from the Wheaton stop.

This is all assuming you are here to see standard tourist sites and won't have a car.

Another option would be to stay in downtown Silver Spring at the Holiday Inn or Hilton & go to Woodside synagogue. Both hotels are a 10-15 min walk to the Silver Spring Metro stop. From there it is a 20 min ride downtown. However, I have to warn you (& I live here), it's a pretty boring suburb.

Good luck.

Thank you everyone..
I may consider the Silver Spring area if the hotel is nice and commute the 2 days of "touring" in DC. Any ideas on Saturday night (after Shabbos) night time tours of DC..? Like bus tour.. to see the monuments lit up at night?
Thank you again

We went a few years back and stayed at a small hotel with a kitchenette, midway between kesher israel & the museums. It was walking distance to both. Sorry - I don't remember the name of the hotel, but it worked out really well. Maybe you can call kesher israel & they can tell you. Remember, the museums are all free in case you want to go there on Saturday. As for kosher restaurants, the above poster is right - they are few & far between. Try shamash.org to get a listing.
