Orleans Hotel ,Las Vegas
 

A travel agent has recommended the Orleans Hotel&Casino as part of a package deal.I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has stayed at this Hotel.

First trip to Vegas??<BR><BR>If so... DON"T DO IT!! (i don't understand all these TAs lately recommending off strip hotels)<BR><BR>The hotel is location FAR from the Vegas strip, and therefore, you won't get the true Vegas experience.<BR><BR>You basically want to stay anywhere between MGM and Treasure Island. I'm assuming cost is somewhat of a factor, so i'd recommend looking at the following hotels (in preference order):<BR><BR>Bally's<BR>Flamingo<BR>Harrah's<BR> Monte Carlo<BR>Treasure Island<BR>MGM<BR>Barbary Coast (no pool, but if winter travel no problem)<BR>Casino Royale (last choice on the list by a distance, but still better than Orleans!)<BR><BR>A step up would be:<BR><BR>Mirage<BR>Paris<BR>(do look into the above two, as sometimes, especially mid-week, they can be had for same prices as above group)<BR><BR>One thing to keep in mind is that rates on the weekend are typically 2-3 times the rates for mid-week.

i wouldn't stay there.<BR>i'm sure they have a shuttle service between the hotel & the strip but i wouldn't want to waste my time waiting for shuttles. unless you are saving a lot of money, take the suggestions above

I used to live in Las Vegas... and Orleans ISNT THAT far!.........its a little off strip..but i have heard good reviews... no its not bellagio...but its clean and neat...and whos in the room when you are out being a tourist lol....you eat and sleep...my favorites..<BR>BELLAGIO<BR>VENETIAN<BR>CEASARS<BR> A HOTEL I LOVED WAS the regent... )now the jw marriot) but it is on rampart....waaaaaaaaaaayyy up sahara...

I've stayed here and the rooms are actually quite nice. The casino is huge, with all the normal slots, sports bar, table games etc. There is a complimentary shuttle that will take you to the Barbary Coast on the strip (one of their sister properties) which is a GREAT location...directly across from Ceasar's Palace, Ballys, next door to Flamingo. If the price is right, stay there. You will spend a fair amount of time there and the rest of the time roaming up and down the strip. The shuttle runs approximately every 20-30 minutes back and forth.

For someone who has never been to Vegas, staying at Orleans, well off the strip, is a huge MISTAKE.<BR><BR>The hotel is so far from the strip (Over a mile and on the opposite side of the interstate), that shuttling or cabbing is the only way to get to use the strip, which ruins the whole experience.<BR><BR>There is nothing about Orleans which is special. It's just like a standard casino hotel in Mississippi or Missouri or any other cheap gambling district. Nothing wrong with it either.<BR><BR>But why sacrifice all the fun and uniqueness of the strip to stay at Orleans?<BR>Makes no sense.

I've never stayed at the Orleans, but for its worth on the Las Vegas Online (www.lvol.com) hotel ratings, it ranks number 2. A high percentage of the respondants said they would stay there again.<BR><BR>I think you'll get the Vegas experience even though you aren't on the Strip. It's not like you can't go to LV Blvd.

That is TOTALLY USELESS info Ryan.<BR><BR><BR>Use some reasoning skills before you swallow online info whole.<BR>Look which strip hotels are rated highest in the lvol.com polls:<BR><BR>1) Tam O'Shanter Motel<BR>2) Bally's<BR>3) Caesar's<BR>4) Harrah's<BR>5) Flamingo<BR>6) Bellagio<BR>...<BR>35) Mandalay Bay<BR>37) Four Seasons<BR><BR><BR>Yeah, RIGHT!<BR><BR>Everyone thinks the Tam O'Shanter Motel, Stratosphere and Harrah's are better than the Four Seasons and Mandalay Bay.<BR><BR>That's about the most useless poll I've ever seen.

Stayed at the Orleans last year. The hotel was nice enough (we had requested and got a room with a view of the strip). However, if I had it to do over again, I would stay right on the strip. Seems like we were always waiting for the shuttle. Also, it was impossible to just step out the door and wander the strip, since it was a mile away. The same goes for the Rio---too far off the strip, and too much time wasted waiting for shuttles.

Stay on the strip. Awesome for first time .<BR>Paris has some great deals now. Sunday through Thursday(select dates) $69.00 a night. Can't beat It

I would recommend Orleans only if you have a rental car....sucks waiting for shuttles.

It's all been said but here's my two cents. Orleans is fine, and if it's part of a package that you like, I wouldn't hesitate. I think you should rent a car if you stay as it is off the strip and the shuttle is not always convenient. If you can spring for the strip, do it, but make sure you take the higher end hotels. I'll be going to Vegas early Nov. and will stay at the Orleans for the 5th time and find it a great bargain. I've stayed on the strip in great hotels with decent rates, however, during convention time the prices increase and weekends are always out of sight.

I travel to Vegas several times a year and have stayed in over 15 hotels, including luxury properties like the Venetian and Caesars. The Orleans was a real find! The rooms are lovely and large (450 square feet) with a sitting area and even a window in the bathroom! Add to that a property with many nice restaurants charging a third less than similar ones on the strip and looser slot machines and you can't go wrong. Spring for a taxi or rent a car if you want to visit the strip.
