Orlando to Vermont

I am planning a trip from Orlando, FL to Montpelier, Vermont. Looking at airports in the area and the Albany, NY airport offers a better selection of flights and better prices than the Burlington airport. If I decide to fly into Albany, what would be a nice scenic route to take to Montpelier? Approximate time it would take?
Returning, I would like to spend a night near Lk. George and next day drive to Albany for our flight home.
I will be going with my wife and this is our first time visiting the area.
Any suggestions are welcomed.

I'd take US-7 from Albany to Royalton then I-89 to Montpelier. It's about 160 miles and should take you about 3 1/4 hours. Go to Google Maps and use the "Directions" option for more details and turn by turn directions. Hint use Albany International Airport as your starting point.

You can also use Google Maps to get directions and route for your drive to Lake George.

Did you check Hartford CT? My Amtrak solution would be to fly to BWI and ride the Vermonter (#56) all the way to Montpelier/Berlin.
The Vermonter goes through Hartford if you didn't want to rent a car there.

Do check the Hartford airport too (BDL) it is north of the city so you would be on your way to VT from there. It is about 3 hours to Montpelier from there. If you check airlines on a consolidator, do a separate search on southwest.com as Southwest does not show on the other sites and often has good rates.

have you checked flights/prices into MHT Manchester NH?

It's an easy drive from I93 to I89 and actually scenic for an interstate. Driving time 2 hours. Slightly longer and more scenic if you head further north on I93 and then over to VT.

I have not looked into the Hartford,CT nor the Manchester,NH airports. I will also check the Vermonter to see how long it would take to get to Montpelier and how scenic the ride is.
My experience with trains in Florida are not very good; not very efficient and they always go through the worst part of town and terrain.

All very good recommendations, thank you !

I got a great deal on straight through flights from Orlando to Albany from JetBlue, under 200 rt. You can then swing through Saratoga, Bolton Landing, Lake George on your way. Bolton Landing is a sweet town.

What time of year are you going? If late July or August you should avoid Saratoga and Lake George since that is when they have racing at Saratoga - the towns are mobbed and hotel rates are sky high for the 6 weeks of the meet.

We are going in mid September. I have not decided yet but so far, the best non top flights are through Albany.

Did you check Southwest?

There were nonstop flights for under $100 each way. In any case, check the cost of car rental too. Often the taxes in one place can add $$$ to that and I don't know about Albany or CT.
