thinking about trying la coquina at the grand cypress for sunday brunch.also the melting pot one night and and timpano's on another. looking for any thoughts thanks.

La coquina gets great press around here, though I've never made it there for brunch. Are you staying down in that area? You might also consider Arthur's 27 for a great view and fine dining.

sludick, we are staying at the grand cypress trying to find something new which is why i picked these three spots. is arthurs 27 a steak house or fancy the wife is a meat and pot. girl

I was hoping to hear from you -- you, I am certain, would be able to comment on restaurants almost anywhere (ok, no cracks about Orlando, I came from San Francisco and know what I am missing). andyg, yes, Arthurs 27 is more steak and pot-atoes fine dining than look-but-don't-eat fine dining. Great view, considered very romantic (translate: pay for the view), atop the Wyndham Palace near Hyatt Grand Cypress in Lake Buena Vista. Dress up a bit (evening or business attire), watch the Disney fireworks. They used to have a prix fixe offering, don't know if they still do. One review I saw lately was "go for the steak." Never have, so don't know. LilMsFoodie, do you?

I'm sitting out Hurricane Charley unable to sleep while the storms howl outside.

I didn't comment as I've been to brunch at Grand Cypress, but it has been at least four or five years, so I don't think my thoughts would be helpful. I do know it shut down a while back from serving their signature blow-out brunch then reinstated it. I despise steam table stuff but this one was quite nice.

I have nothing to say about the Melting Pot. They are all over Florida and maybe everywhere else. I've been twice and don't remember much.

I do not know Timpanos.

If your significant other is a plain eater (meat and potatoes) I'd head to the Dolphin hotel and Shulas. It is a great steakhouse. I even ate Iceberg Lettuce there and like it!

Andyg, Can not comment on La Coquina, but we really liked Timpano, Not gourmet but had a good filet (get the balsamic reduction sauce, it was delicious). It was a bit loud though. Melting is what it is, good but a bit expensive for what you get. The one on Sand Lake road has some nice private booths if you want that.

It's been a few years since I did the La Coquina Brunch. It was good, but we returned to our regular brunch spot, Renaissance Hotel Sea World, which was less expensive and just as good, if not better.
