Orlando Resorts
We will be traveling to Orlando in June for a convention. We need a recommendation of a luxury hotel that is convenient to the amusement parks and also the convention center.
|
Have you narrowed your choices down through research at all?
|
my husband just got back from business in Orlando and they stayed and the Disney Yacht Club Resort. He enjoyed it a lot. You can google it and see what you think.
|
I would most definitely suggest Gaylord Palms. It's just across from Disney, and right on I-4, south of the Sea World and the Convention Center (and further north is Universal).

The J.W. Marriott and the Ritz share the same property. 10 minute drive from the convention center and 20 minutes from Disney, Universal or Sea World.
The Peabody is walking distance of the convention center, but depending on the size of the exhibition you are attending, sometimes in the crowd more than staying at the amusement park. Agree with thepeters that Gaylord is a good option as well. |
I hate to be disagreeable, but the Gaylord Palms is not the most centrally located hotel. In fact it is somewhat off by itself.
If you mention exactly which theme parks (in addition to WDW) you plan to visit, it would be possible to give better recommendations. If you are interested in Sea World, then it is quite close to the south end of International Drive where the convention center is located. If you are coming to Orlando for a convention, check with your convention hotel to see if they can extend your convention rates by a few days. If you do not have a specific convention hotel with discounted rates, the Peabody is a luxury hotel near the convention center that I am sure you will like. |
If you are planning to visit Universal parks then stay in one of their three on site hotels. That way you will gt automatic express access to all the park attractions by showing your room key.
They are all Loews hotels and are great. The Portofino Resort is the most adult oriented. The Royal Paicific Resort and the Hard Rock Hotel are great too. |
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have a few more questions as I narrow my decision. Which of the Loews hotels would be best for teens? How far is the property to Disney World. If you had a choose of better properties would you stay at a Loews or the Ritz.
|
The teens might like the Hard Rock Hotel (Run by Loews). Remember, though, all the Loews properties are at Universal.
Between the Ritz and the Loews properties, the Ritz wins hands down. I was just there at the end of April and I was reminded why I love Ritz's so much. The Ritz is also more centrally located, right near SeaWorld, and between Disney and Universal. The Ritz is a bit closer to Disney, but maybe (when driving) by about five minutes. |
The Hard Rock is definitely the place for teens as opposed to the Ritz. The Ritz is stuffy - and gorgeous - but for adults - a kid wouldn't like it there - and there is nothing for them to do other than the pool. From the Hard Rock it is extremely easy to get to Universal City Walk - the night time place - where there are restaurants, movies, shopping, etc. and also to the Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios - easy walk. Hands down for a teen - Hard Rock hotel! You will be a cool parent! Have fun.

It depends what your kids are up for. Mine love the Ritz, but some kids might be a little disappointed, since Ritz-Carltons do have a bit of a stiff, more adult atmosphere.
|
If you are visiting the Universal Parks. then stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. It is just a short walk to the Universal parks and City Walk from there. Plus the added venefit of express access.
