Oregon trip
 

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Portland area. After arriving in Portland we plan on driving to McMinnisville and staying two nights in the Hotel Oregon. We then want to drive to the coast and stay two nights around Cannon Beach or Mansanita. We would like to stay in a nice Bed and Breakfast in either of those areas. Any have any suggestions for that? After being on the coast for two days we will drive back to Portland for an additional three days. Again, I would appreciate any suggestions of where we might stay while in Portland -- a B&B or quaint hotel would be great.

I liked the Hotel Oregon in McMinnville a lot when we went for lunch and got a tour .. very charming and quirky. There are many good places to eat in town.

I would stay in Cannon Beach or south in Arch Cape.

Manzanita has some motels and B&Bs ..

Breakfast or lunch in Manzanita is definitely good at <u>bread and ocean</u>


the Inn at Northrup Station is good/quirky in Portland.

Hotel Oregon is a fun spot in McMinnville. You don't mention when this trip is, but if weather is good they have a rooftop bar that is nice.

In Cannon Beach, check out the Cannon Beach Hotel. It is a small hotel with a great location. I have not stayed there, as we always stay at the Surfsand next door. The Surfsand is very nice, but much larger. A fellow poster here, beachbum, has stayed at the Cannon Beach Hotel so can give you specifics on that.

Another option in Portland, if you like the McMenamins style, is to stay at their Kennedy School. I love the place, but the only drawback is that it is a short (5-10minutes) drive to the heart of downtown. Scarletts suggestion of Northrup Station is a great location if you want to be in downtown and be able to walk everywhere.

I loved Manzanita. Its very peaceful and quiet and very different from Cannon Beach. Stayed at Coast Cabins which are a few minutes walk down the road to the ocean. Nice hiking in the area also. http://tinyurl.com/bbhyco
There is a B&amp;B or Inn right on the water and a couple motels in town.

Check out the Edgewater, a McMenamins' property in Troutdale, not far from the airport. It's a step up from the Hotel Oregon, as they have toilets and sinks in the room. There's also much to do on the property -- winery, distillery, movie theater, mini golf course, etc. We spent the last day of our Oregon wine tour their a few years ago -- great fun! We spent one night in Cannon Beach in a nice hotel just north of the creek -- very pretty and quiet and they had bunnies. We also spent a night in Yachats -- hubby's first time at the Pacific and he had a blast poking around the rocks and tide pools and checking out (and being checked out by) the seals at one of the pull-offs just south of town. Are you doing the wineries in the Willamette? Oh, the Pinot!

That would be the Edgefield in Troutdale;) I agree, a fun place as well. It will take you longer to get into downtown though, especially at rush hour.

Check out the White House in Portland, a Bed and Breakfast that gets good reviews. There aren't many B&amp;B's in Cannon Beach, in nearby Seaside there is the Seaside Inn which is right on the prom and the Gilbert Inn, a historic property about a block from the ocean. :)

Astoria is B&amp;B heaven, this is a historic town right on the Columbia River that is about 30 minutes from Cannon Beach. We have a second home there and have been traveling to Astoria for over 20 years. Even if you don't stay here, you may want to spend some time in Astoria visiting the museums, restaurants, riverfront, etc. Have fun! ***kim*** ((f))

Cannon Beach and south to Manzanita really doesn't seem to include a drive to Astoria which is not even on the ocean.

When someone is googling B&amp;Bs, there are many listed but only a couple in town ( on the Westside) that look good ( to me and at least I lived there and know that area) and they are more expensive than some hotels.

kim, if you ever stayed in Portland, in a B&amp;B, can you post it here? I might have forgotten .. but I thought you only stayed at that hotel on the River years ago.

I would not stay on the Eastside since it just forces you to have to drive to the Westside to see the sights.. if you are tight on time.

Since someone missed this after I posted it, I will re-post it ... an Inn near Cannon Beach.. quite nice too.
