Oregon in October

I was thinking of driving down the Oregan coast at the start of October.
Would the weather be reasonable, and what would the road conditions be like?

Also is five days a reasonable time period?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a *lot* to see on that 360+ miles of Oregon coast. Especially if you like the outdoors and nature. I'd say the longer you can make your trip the better...5 days is okay but 8 would be better. Weather...well expect rain, sun, clouds, bright days etc. It changes all the time on the coast..often the weather goes from bright sun to cloudy to rain to back to sun in one day even.

Hi, Stu
Went last October (2001) early part ... road conditions great ... a lot newly paved (midway section). Our weather was good ... except one day of very heavy rain and wind ... but we made the best of it, and enjoyed it. We went into a drug store, and bought rain suits. They protected us well - hoods on the jackets and the pants kept our bottoms dry! Come prepared and you'll have a great time!

fabulous drive - stick to the coast road as much as you can. i think october would be a good time to go. if you are just doing oregan, i think 5 days will be fine. i drove from san diego to the canadian border in 5 days - granted we mostly sightsaw from the car.

Someone mention "rain suits" which of course are far more suited for a rainy day walking on the coast than an umbrella which would be inside out in seconds with the normal wind conditions.
One way an Oregonian (or a Washingtonian) can spot immediately someone from CA. or other "foreign" states anywhere on on rainy day is the umbrella. In the PNW no on ever carries an umbrella unless they are over 75 or so....or they are from California.
