Oregon in March/Weatherwise
 

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the weather in march for the oregon coast would be like. I don't mind rain and wish to avoid heavy tourist times of year. Does it usually average around 50 degrees or higher? Or would autumn be a better time to go. Any and all help appreciated! Thanks.

The coast can be "iffy" antime, but March will be cool, cloudy, and possibly damp, although not freezing. We don't get our good weather here until June or July, with any consistency, however thouse of us who live here don't mind it. just bring some Gortex and go. That's what we do. However, be aware that Oregon does not encourage visitors, or at least transplants (trying to keep it all to themselves).

Well said Julie. I know of and hear a lot of horrow stories from visitors to Oregon. They do not like Californians, do they. However, about weather in March - from Grants Pass south there's a good possibility of snow. From there north is probably ok. Don't try it from another direction without 4WD.

Thank you both for the info. I can understand why the people of Oregon want to keep visitors to a minimum. Like the Eagle song says "call someplace Paradise, kiss it goodbye."

We are the "ugly" Californians that love Oregon and go there every years for last twenty years. Our favorite time for the coast is last of Sept. first of Oct.Only had one years it rained during that time and it was one of those El Nino years.Be aware is it almost always windy. <BR>As for being welcome-we have found the last 5-6 years attitude has improved as to "outsiders". Especially in the smaller coastal towns suffering from decline of lumber industry and fishing. We like Bandon, Coos Bay, Florence, Depoe Bay and I love Astoria. Newport, Cannon Beach and Seaside have become too touristy for us. Theplaces we like all have places to hike, walk on the beach, decent food and reasonable accomodations. <BR>If March was the only time I could go, I'd pack windbreaker, warm clothes and rain parka and GO!!

It isn't just Oregonians that don't like Californians. Many, many people all over the PNW dislike Californians. But then I used to live in the Southwest and they hated Californians too....I recall all the bummer stickers I used to see that read "Don't Californicate New Mexico".
