Oregon: Crater Lake Lodge

Well, it looks like we'll be staying at least one night at Crater Lake.

I notice the Lodge is the only place with the park. The reviews on Trip Advisor are spotty at best.

Thought from those who stayed there? What type of room to ask for, etc?

Thanks.

My daughter tried to book a room for July--no vacancies..
It was comlpetely remodeled last year--maybe more popular now ????

We had a simple room facing the lake. We liked it.

Nice hotel. No TV or such, but very nice restaurant at the lodge.

In addition to the Prospect Hotel, T&G, you might want to check out two first-rate inns that are located within a reasonable distance of Crater Lake N.P. One is Steamboat Inn on Hwy 138 east of Roseburg. The other is Jacksonville Inn on 238 about ten miles southwest of Medford.

We stayed in the motel complex a few miles from the Lodge (but still a park property) two summers ago. The Lodge was totally booked. The rooms in the motel were just fine BUT there is no AC (none in Lodge either) and our stay was during a hot spell in late July. We were so uncomfortable that we left Crater Lake one day early and drove as far as Grant's Pass to stay in a motel on the river that had AC and was delightful.

Crater Lake was interesting to look at for a day but not much else to do there, though one could argue that having a drink on the deck overlooking the lake (at the Lodge) was a nice thing!

Thank You. Crater Lake is a beautiful and unique place, but when one considers how difficult it is to get to and from the place and how many other alluring destinations there are in Oregon, it is not where I would send anybody taking a short vacation in the state.

I think it depends on ones interests as to whether or not CL is boring. If you like to hike or are into photography, there is never enough time here.

Margo--We were there during that same hot spell, although just for the day. The boat ride was a welcome relief from the heat, but it cooled off fast when the thunder storm rolled in that afternoon.

tandg,
I haven't stayed in the Lodge, but I think you'll want to ask for a standard lakeside or better room to guarantee yourselves a view. Some rooms face southeast, away from the lake.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Looks like we'll do an overnight. A friend of mine was pointing out the risk of just driving up there and out in one day...namely the risk of bad weather. I would hate to drive all that way and have the place clouded over! What a waste that would be. So we'll stay the night and leave the next morning for the cost.

bb.....went to the website. I'll ask for the standard or deluxe lakeside view.

Hey thanks bbqboy! :)

I'd love to. Unfortunately, I won't have time this trip! But I'll be playing a couple rounds in Bandon.

I'm going to double check with the Lodge tomorrow, but I saw in another post some rooms SHARE A BATH?? That won't do.
