oregon coast trip- walking issue

reposting as didn't say oregon in original post

We will be driving part way down the oregon coast in sept. Plan to stop a lot along the way. (already have our reservations). wondering how much of a walk the various overlooks, state parks, etc. involve in order to get a view, flavor, etc.?

One of us has walking issues, steps, heights not a problem. It is long distances and standing. Would bring a wheelchair but not sure that is very practical as I get the feeling the trails are not very wheelchair accessible.

any input would be helpful

As far as overlooks and photo ops are concerned, the Oregon state parks that line 101 are, for the most part, easy walking and short distances. Plan to drive up to Cape Perpetua (it is on the left side of 101 heading south) for a fantastic view. I am also partial to the area south of Port Orford...lots to see without getting too far from your car.

Yes, LOTS of great views require only a short walk. Personal north coast favorites are Ecola State Park and Cape Meares State Park. The central coast has long stretches of views - from the car even - between Newport and Florence. Then there's Port Orford and south, with countless roadside signs directing you to views that seem to get better the further south you go.

Ecola State Park has gorgeous views, you can walk right from the parking lot out onto the grassy area there for stunning views of the Tillamook Lighthouse, Haystack Rock and the ocean. Take the drive back to Indian Beach, you will not need to walk down to the beach to see the stunning views there also. There are picnic tables set up just steps from the parking lot where we like to enjoy lunch. We will back in the area for a bit soon! ***kim*** ((#))
