Oregon Coast travel
My husband daughter I and our 6yr old dalmation plan to travel the Oregon Coast in April or May 99.

We live in Anchorage Alaska. Our plan is to fly from Anch to Seattle or Portland spend one week on the coast and make our way possibly to Boise ID where grandparents are.

I need any tips traveling with a pet and if you have experience with any hotels/motels that take pets. Thanks Margaret

The Oregon Coast has been a frequent subject over the past year. Most of the responses have been displaced by now.
But if you search on Oregon, you should find loads of great tips. I have visited the Oregon Coast 3 times and will happily go back again. But look up the old responses, they are still as current as they ever were.
Hi!

My wife and I spent a week out on the Oregon coast and up in Washington last spring. There's really not a lot of coast access in Washington. Most of the nicer beaches are further south down in Oregon.

We spent some time in Cannon Beach, Oregon. We didn't have our dog with us but we saw several folks who had brought their's. I would suggest typing Cannon Beach into a search engine and start there. The motel we stayed did not allow pets but I know several of them do.

Enjoy!
We stayed at the Hallmark Resort (condo) in Newport, OR a few months ago. I believe that they allowed dogs. The place was really lovely-ocean front room, two double beds, kitchenette, and gas log fireplace, as well as a balcony.

We live in Oregon and travel a lot on the coast (and I mean a whole lot) and 90% of the time we have our 3 dogs with us. Lots of motels take pets. Get the AAA book for Washington/Oregon cause in there all the motels say whether they take pets or not. I'd say about 50% or more do. Oregon beaches are great for dogs as they can just run and run. We meet lots of dogs on the beach. 95% are unleashed (as they should be). When we spot someone with a dog on a leash it looks so odd. We know before we even talk to the person (and dog people have to talk most of the time) that they are either from out of state or live in Portland (which usually means they haven't been here in Oregon long too.)

The coast of Oregon is fantastic. I'd try for May instead of April, though. You have a better chance for good weather (of course the best time is in September and October). I liked Bandon, along the southern coast the best.

I disagree with letting dogs run without a lease. If it isn't against the law, it should be. Dogs harrass wildlife, they foul the beach with their feces, they get in fights with other dogs, and they frighten other people who don't want your dog in their face, on their towel, in their picnic baskets, etc.

I also find it humorous when dog owners tell you "oh, he won't bite". This is after the dog has terrorized you, jumped on you, trashed your beach site. Joy, joy, joy.

<<they frighten other people who don't want your dog in their face, on their towel, in their picnic baskets, etc. >>

We are talking Oregon beaches here, right?
It is very very rare to see anyone having a picnic or swimming on any beach here much less sun bathing on a towel. Too cold and windy 95% of the time at least. Beach fires at night yes, but who ever goes swimming?? Seems like your own fear of dogs is showing itself here. The majority of people we see on beaches here have a dog or two with them and I have never had any problems with any of these dogs (and I'm a native Oregonian so have seen them for many years).
