Oregon coast - time?
 

We are planning to travel to Oregon in September next year and were hoping to do part of the Oregon coast.

Would six days for a journey from Seaside down to Florence then onto Eugene be enough time or would it be a bit of a rush.

Any help would be appreciated.

How are you traveling and what do you want to do along the way? Total distance Seaside to Florence to Eugene is about 225 miles; you can easily drive it in six hours. So, I'm wondering what of your question I'm missing.

Six days would be great, though you could easily spend more time. You could spend two nights in Canon Beach and visit Ecola St. Pk., take the 3 Capes loop drive at Tillamook and maybe hike out onto Cape Lookout, then stay a couple of nights in the Yachats area and visit Cape Perputua. You'd have time to visit other places along the way. I'm sure people will suggest the Oregon Coast aquarium and other places they enjoy. You really should invest in a book on vacationing in Oregon and plan according to your interests. You will be coming at a good time of year and should have a nice trip.

Schedule some time for Astoria. It's beautiful and full of history. I would suggest visiting the Maritime Museum, Fort Clatsop and the Flavel House. A lunch at Ship Inn and dinner at the Silver Salmon Grille.

You may want to go over the bridge to the coastal town of Long Beach. Have a nice dinner at the Shoalwater at the Shelburne Inn. It's a four-star dining establishment.

Newport is great. The aquarium is very nice. Yachats is uneventful, tho a pretty part of the coast in that area. The real beauty is on the northern coast, IMO. We're headed over there on Thurs. for a few days!! ***kim***

I would agree about the guidebook. There is alot to do but it depends on your tastes. Hiking,picnics,walks on the beach,rock climbing,shopping. Each place is so different. I agree with Kim that the N coast is great...perfect for drives but IMO the southern coast has more to offer in other ways...Bandon is a great place to stay with loads to keep you busy. If you do some searches on this board you may be able to narrow it down a bit but six days it a great start and plenty of time to see some of the area...BTW the drive across from Reedsport to Roseburg is an amazing drive that time of year with the trees changing color, the river and stops at Elk viewing areas (of which there are usually loads) IMO it a much nicer drive than from Florence to Eugene.

I agree that you really shouldn't miss the southern part of the Oregon Coast - that's probably the most scenic part. If you are a AAA member, see if you can get ahold of their Oregon Coast tour map. It's a good guide to the sites there.

Thank you everyone for your help. We are restricted to six days as we have to catch the train from eugene to vancouver, bc for our flight.

Bandon is pretty but not much to do there. We spent a few hours there then were anxious to get up the coast with all the "hot spots" on the coast. We have three teens so they like to be where the action is so to speak!! Have a great time!!

September is a wonderful time to visit the coast. The tourists will be thinning out and the weather should be very nice for you!! Let us know how it goes and have a great time!! ***kim***
