Oregon Coast Lodging Recommendation for Anniversary Trip

My wife and I will be traveling to the Oregon Coast in 2 weeks for an anniversary trip. We are not familiar with the area and we would appreciate any suggestions for romantic oceanfront lodging appropriate for a couple. We have heard about Cannon Beach as a nice destination, but we are open to all suggestions. Thank you for your advice!

How many days will you be on the Oregon Coast? How much do you want to drive?

In Cannon Beach, Stephanie Inn offers the most celebratory lodging and dining. Book a room above the first floor.

If you're looking for oceanfront, I agree that, with Stephanie Inn, Cannon Beach has the best. Try and book it today! If it's not available, check out the Ocean Lodge, next door to Stephanie. If that's also full, consider the SurfSand Resort, Stephanie Inn's (more family oriented) sister property. All three have websites to peruse.

Failing those, I've read good things about the O'dysius in Lincoln City, though I've not stayed there.

Good luck, and happy anniversary!

Cannon Beach is our favorite as well. It's a little more spendy, especially the Stephanie Inn, but it's fantastic! The Hallmark Inn in Cannon Beach also has nice rooms, some with jetted tubs, and great views, that are more affordable than the Stephanie Inn if pricing is an option. By the way, last time I went to the Stephanie Inn they had a no-kids rule (12 and under??) so it's definitely more couples oriented. Have a great time!

I know I'm in the minority here, but we weren't all that taken with Cannon Beach - it just seemed to touristy to us. We much prefered sleepy little Nye Beach in Newport and the Nye Beach Hotel.

kimamom Jun 8th, 2005 02:21 PM

Yes, Cannon Beach is very touristy, especially in the summer. Iwald123, you might want to consider Manzanita. It's another place on the northern coast that we really like. We have lodging in the area, so I haven't stayed in hotels there. Perhaps someone who has stayed in Manzanita would care to comment. Happy Anniversary and enjoy the Oregon Coast! ***kim*** ((*))

We will be spending 5 nights on the coast. Thanks to all who have replied! Good info!

Hi lwald!
Happy Anniversary!
There have been many questions about where to stay along the Oregon coast lately. Since my husband and I are moving to Portland this summer, I have been reading every one of them :)
I am including a link here for another thread where Cannon Beach is discussed, hope it helps .

Btw- kim, on this (enclosed)thread- you said you liked Cannon Beach..did something happen between that time and now, aside from the fact that you have a place in Seaside?

Has anyone stayed at Salishan Lodge-
have heard its very nice- but never hear much else about it and dont know anyone who has actually stayed there

Fodorite018 Jun 8th, 2005 04:53 PM

I agree about Cannon Beach being a very nice place for an anniversary trip. Take Beachbum's advice and get reservations now though.

Scarlett--When you arrive here, you can do lots of day trips to CB like we do:)

Sunbum--We stayed at Salishan several times, but it has been many years. I think the last time was in the late 80's, lol! It was very nice then, but like you said, you just don't hear much about it at all anymore.

kimamom Jun 8th, 2005 05:01 PM

sunbum, how is the Cannery Pier Hotel progressing? Wish we could have gotten tickets to the Pink Martini concert at the Liberty. Is your brother going to that? :) ***kim***

beachbum Jun 8th, 2005 06:41 PM

Don't ya just hate that, Scarlett? Just like my kids ignoring me when I ask them questions.

We've stayed at Salishan too, sunbum. I think it could use a facelift. But it's not really a beach resort as much as a golf resort, with all the rooms on the hill overlooking the golf course.

Another thought in Cannon Beach Iwald is this place: http://www.oregoncoastlodgings.com/c...ecourtyard.htm. It's a half block off the beach, so probably no ocean view. But we walked by and looked in when we were in Cannon Beach a couple weekends ago, and will certainly consider it in the future.

It is annoying :D but to be expected. Kay Syrah Syrah LOL

Fodorite018 Jun 8th, 2005 06:52 PM

LOL Beachbum and Scarlett:D

beachbum Jun 8th, 2005 06:53 PM

By the way, Iwald, while Manzanita is a, quaint, quiet, less commercial beach town with a nice beach, I don't believe you'll find the type of accommodations you're looking for there.

Brian_in_Charlotte Jun 9th, 2005 05:52 AM

Agreed. Stayed a couple nights in Manzanita a couple years ago. Enjoyed it, but wouldn't recommend it for "romantic oceanfront lodging".

sunbum1944 Jun 9th, 2005 08:54 AM

kimamom- guess the Cannery Pier is proceeding on target ( its not my brother but a co-workers brother who is opening it) His sister says she thinks the grand opening is Aug 15- It sounds like a great place - we're hoping we can do an office field trip there sometime.

kimamom Jun 9th, 2005 02:32 PM

I'll have to check it out later this month when we're in Astoria. Brian in Charlotte, when did you stay at the Nye Beach Hotel? It received a horrible review on other board, but that was a little less than two years ago. Has it been remodeled since then? ***kim*** ((*))

lwald123 Jun 9th, 2005 03:37 PM

Everyone has been so helpful! Thanks again! Cannon Beach will be our destination.

kimamom Jun 21st, 2005 12:39 PM

Where have you decided to stay? We had a very nice meal at Gower Street Bistro last night. It is located right next to the Cannon Beach Hotel which is very, very nice if you like Historic Hotels. Don't miss a meal at the Stephanie Inn, we had an excellent dinner there a few nights ago. Highly recommend! Cheers! ***kim*** ((*))
