Oregon Coast in October/November
 

My husband and I are looking for recommendations on restaurants, sightseeing, etc. on the Oregon coast in late October and early November. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

WHERE on the coast? Northern, southern, central? It's a big coastline ;-). <BR> <BR>Wherever you are on the coast, however, be prepared for rain. In fact, stormwatching is a big draw in the winter (although you may be there early enough to miss the really bad weather). <BR> <BR>

I'm with Sherry. I live in Oregon and gotta tell you, the Oregon coast is Huge. Most of it is thankfully NOT privately owned so, you can find wonderful places to stay in the North, South, or Central coast areas. If you are going in October/November however, I would suggest staying in one of the larger towns on the coast like Lincoln City, Newport or Tillamook so that you wil have plenty to do while NOT at the beach. It is a little too cool, rainy and windy to spend much time actually on the beach. I love Lincoln City because it has a large Casino run by a friendly tribal community. Shops, restaurants and other types of entertainment are readily available and reasonably priced for the off-season. Have a great time here! We love it....

I read where Oregon installed a coast storm warning. It's the sound of cows moooiing.(Really I read that). The reason for the cow sound is "so as not to alarm the tourist". The natives know to take cover. Do they mean to hell with the tourist? Seems so. I have also heard this from a person who lives on the coast. Has anyone else heard or read of this phenom?

HI! Well where to start! I LOVE the Oregon Coast. My family and I travel there each year and usually the 1st week in November! Eventhough we've been up and down the entire coast a couple of times, we have settled on the Cannon Beach area for several reasons. Ecola State Park is VERY beautiful. The town is small, but it has several really good restaurants and the shopping is fun. The beach is great and yes we do walk it every morning and evening. We favor the Lazy Susan Cafe for breakfast and stay in a "beach cottage" right on the beach that we found several years ago. The Surf and Sand is an upscale alternative as is the Hallmark Resort. Cannon Beach makes a great "home base" only 6 miles from Seaside (which has a "Coldwater Creek Outlet" at the small outlet mall on 101.) Astoria is very interesting and not far north, either. Good Maritime Museum and Lumber Baron homes. Going south from Cannon Beach, be sure to drive into Tillamock and visit the Tillamock Cheese Factory. Fun! I also like Lincoln City, but prefer the quieter area of Cannon Beach. <BR> <BR>The one thing that I would do is buy a cheap poncho (Walgreens $4.95) this usually keeps the rain at bay!!!! <BR> <BR>Please feel free to e-mail me I'd be glad to share more info!! Someone here says that most of the Oregon coast is public but it's really 100% of the coast that is public land. It was declared a highway many years ago so no private person or company could grab any of it. I walk the beaches on all weather and times of the year as do most Oregonians. No such thing as too cold or windy or rainy if you dress right.
