Oregon and Washington states
I am going to visit Oregon and Washington states this summer for 10 days. What would be the most interesting places to see.
Sincerely, Inga |
It depends on what you are interested in. There is more than enough to do in each state to take up your whole 10 days.
Think about the balance of city time and non-city time. Both Portland and Seattle are wonderful cities with lots to see and do. Also think about what areas outside of the cities you want to visit. The Columbia Gorge has much to recommend it, and it is an easy drive from Portland. There are also wine areas near Portland, and of course, there is the Oregon Coast. You can't cover it all, so you'll have to choose. Likewise, Seattle has much to see and do. I highly recommend the Chilhuly museum of glass in Seattle Center and the Olympic Sculpture Garden. Outside of Seattle, consider a drive to Mt. Rainer, or consider several days in Olympic National Park. You can also consider the San Juan Islands or Whidbey Island. Do some more research with an eye to what you want to see and do, and we can be more helpful. |
Dittoes for Kathie. Where are you coming from?
Are you flying in to PDX or SEA or perhaps coming by train? You don't need a rental car in Portland or Seattle but for anything away from the cities, you will need one. Depending on how late in the summer you come, there will be a total solar eclipse on August 21. The line of totality crosses Oregon all the way from the coast to Ontario and into Idaho. |
There isn't much to add to what Kathie has written on the topic.

hi Inga, These are two HUGE states you are asking about!!!
And they are very different whether you are west (coastal) or east (inland) "of the mountains". Are you flying in What airport are you using? Are you more interested in seeing the cities? Or natural beauty of the countryside? Mountains or coast? Will you have a rental car? Or want to travel by bus or train? |
Thank you very much for the ideas. I will fly to Portland, rent a car and I am interested more in nature, parks, mountains. I am not planning to stay in the cities.

I'm planning a trip in the same area in June. I'm flying into Seattle and plan to drive all of Hwy 101 and fly out of San Francisco. I'm looking for nature with highlights on waterfalls, sea glass, and unique nature. Any help would be great.

Please start your own thread erikvenrick.
Have you researched the drop off charge renting in Seattle and dropping off at SFO? The best waterfalls in Oregon are off I-84 east of Portland. |
For questions this broad I think a guidebook is more helpful in planning than internet forums.
