Orcas Island Accomodation
I would appreciate a couple of recommendations for accomodations for a 25th wedding anniversary getaway. Cost is not a prime concern but would like something on the water and nice. Could you tell me approximately how much it costs to fly from Seattle airport to the island? Do most people rent cars on the island to get around? Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thankyou for your help. Jim

A few suggestions for nice/romantic accommodations on the water: Inn at Ship Bay, Spring Bay Inn, Cayouse Cove cabins and Cabins on the Point.
The cost of flying will depend on the time of year, but if you look at the Kenmore Air website that will give you an idea (Kenmore operates float planes from downtown Seattle to Orcas). I'm not sure which if any airlines offer service from Seatac to Orcas. And yes, most people either take their cars on the ferry or rent a car on the island--it's not very convenient to get around on the island without a car. |
I really appreciate the quick response and the info. Are any of those accomodations in a better location on the island and which might have best setting? Which one would you stay at if you had the choice? Thankyou again. Jim

Spring Bay is where I'd stay for sure, if they have room--that's my favorite place on Orcas. It's a great fit if you enjoy the outdoors--they do a morning kayaking trip for guests before breakfast. It's run by two former park rangers--great people.
But it is a good 20-30 minute drive from Eastsound, the main town, so if you'd rather be closer to town, then Ship Bay might work better for you. It also depends on what type of place you prefer--are you B&B people or do you prefer the privacy of a cabin, for example? Another good choice for couples that I forgot to mention previously is the Anchorage Inn. |
It may be too late but the previous comment by NWWanderer on Spring Bay Inn could have been written by me. We first went for our 25th anniversary and have been back since. We love it there!! Yes it's a little way out of town but not a real issue and the quiet and seclusion are worth the drive.
