Opinions on Las Vegas itinerary
We're thinking of:
-flying into Vegas Wed. night
-Thursday, Friday in Vegas
-Leave Vegas for San Diego late Friday afternoon
-Friday night in San Diego
-Tijuana Saturday (we'll park in one of the U.S. parking lots and get in by shuttle or by foot)
-Back to San Diego before dark
-Fly back to NY Sunday afternoon
Any opinions or cautions on this plan?
Thanks all!

Skip Tijuana and spend that Saturday in San Diego. Tijuana is very tacky. If you really feel the need to go to Baja, Rosarita Beach would be better but you would have to drive there (short drive). Driving to Rosarita is easy on the toll road-just make sure you have Mexican insurance which can purchased at the border on the US side.

We were in Las Vegas and San Diego during the end of December.
With all the rain California has received, make sure the roads you plan to use are in working order. We hit some really bad traffic at certain points, so keep that in mind. You might want to ask a new question so you can get better information about the roads if you are not aware already.
We stayed in Old Town in San Diego and loved it. It was fun to tour and seemed pretty safe at night, too.
If you want to catch the train (trolley?) into Tijuana, you can do that in Old Town. It looks like it's pretty easy to do, but we decided to skip it. Touring other parts of San Diego kept up pretty busy.
Have fun!

I agree with the above poster. Too much for 4 days. Coming from the East Coast Vegas or San Diego is a long flight even for 4 days. Add a nice drive in the middle and I think that is alot of traveling for little payback. I can't comment on tijuana as when we went to San Diego we had a young child with us and didn't even consider Mexico. But from what i have heard, i doubt it is worth driving from Vegas just to go to tijuana. Finally, this is by no means meant as an insult to your personally and i am not infering you are doing anything wrong, but if I worked for the DEA I would find this itineary very interesting.

it is a bit much. depending what time you get into vegas wednesday night and how tired you are...if you don't go out that night, you'll only have one night in vegas. seems at least one too short for me.
i too would skip tj.
it's doable but a lot of travelling for 4 days.

You are looking at a solid 5 hours from Vegas to SD. If you are like many in Vegas, sleep may have been limited. Add in Friday evening traffic and a boring desert drive for much of it. I say this with all affection: You must be crazy!
Spend your time in Vegas, party it up, sleep on the trip home.

My wife & I travel to San Diego at least once a year from Alaska for the sunshine, margaritas, & ambience. If you have never been to San Diego it could keep you amused for several days itself. Done Tijuana & never again. It's a filty place with no redeeming value. Been to Las Vegas a couple of times. Lets just say it's different but it is an interesting place to see along with Hoover Dam & should easily accommodate your interests for the whole period you plan for the trip. I agree with the others. My suggestion is to do just Las Vegas this time. Next time add a few days to your itinerary & do San Diego with a drive up the California coast.
