I had frieds do that in Fiji. One week was spent in a treehouse type place. Then the next week they went to a super nice resort, then they also spent a few days in between just hanging out and finding a hotel here or there. Well.....here or there for as big as Fiji is probabl.

I want to do something similar in Hawaii....preferably Maui. Any suggestions?

I want a week of being pampered like at the Hyatt or Four Seasons, but then I think it would be nice to do a less expensive deal where we kind of are living and doing our own thing.

Can someone recommend places, or tell me anything they know about doing something like this.

You certainly could do a condo rental for a less expensive option.

I don't know about Maui, but on Kauai the Waimea Plantation Cottages are a world away from a resort hotel -llke going back to the old Hawaii. They aren't inexpensive though. Here's a link - http://www.the-cottages.com/rates.html

There is a lot of conversations going on this board about resort hotels on Maui with lots of good input. Happy planning!

I have no suggestions regarding places, but if I were to do that, I'd reverse the order and be pampered the second week.

There are some great cottages on the north shore. Some places to start:

Oh thank you Gone to Maui.......

I wish I was there right now. I am in need of papaya, sun, sand, ocean and the smell of pineapple and sugar cane.
