OOPS, I dropped my paycheck in Las Vegas

Was in Las Vegas April 12-14. A few highlights, as it were.

Friend 3G and I have traveled to Vegas about 10 times together over the years. This trip was a spur of the moment trip as we both have seasonal construction companies. Long story short, we drove through a snow storm to get to the airport, neither of us slept at all the night before arriving in Vegas, and Harrah's wanted $28.00 to check in early.

We flew on Delta, no issues, except for them having to de-ice the plane before taking off. That was a little disconcerning. I tried to grab a few zzz's on the flight but I had forgotten how noisy the inside of an airplane really is. We landed in terminal 1 with only carryon luggage and booked a bus to Harrah's. I used to always take a cab but I have grown tired of haggeling with them to 'take paradise drive' instead of the tunnel. The bus stopped at two other casinos and then dropped us off at the rear main entrance of Harrah's. I would have had a hard time finding the check-in desk from Las Vegas Boulevard, which was my origional plan. It was very early for check-in and after I refused to pay $28.00 for early check-in(do they want everyone in line at 4:00?) the desk lady offered an upgrade to the Mardi Gras tower for $30.00 and we can check in immediatley. O.K., I give up. Let me sleep, no wait, I'm hungry. It's 10:30 and I think Emeril's Delmonico steak house opens at 11:00, next door at the Venetian. We walk over the Venetian, WOW, it is very cool. I said that I would never give the owner a dime of my business, I do not like the way he stiffed the construction companies that worked on the Venetian, but The Delmonico does not open until 11:30, sooo I put a hundred in slot machine and 9 minutes later it is gone. Lesson learned:never say never. The food was great and I believe that the bananna cream pie is the best dish I have ever eaten.(I have had it before)

After Emerils, I play in a hold em tournament at the Mirage and get no cards to play and get blinded out, time for a nap. Wait, there is the sports book so I bet on the Minnesota Twins(homer bet) and the Detroit Tigers(like their pitcher) and go take a little nap. I am determined to stay up late this trip. I wake up in time for another tournament and am completly card dead. I make it for 3-4 hours, long enough to see the Twins lost by 16-5 and the Tigers lost in extra innings.UGH , well thats gambling. 12 hours in Vegas and all losses

Saturday, breakfast buffet at Harrah's. It was plenty good. Lots of fresh fruit and plenty of variety. Another tournament and I give up on cards. I had nice conversations with the players I was sitting next to but darn, I am snake bit. I usually do not play machines but I am feeling a little punchy from a week of little sleep and the way money evaporated in the machines, I remember why I do not play them. I walk down to the Monte Carlo, enjoying the warm sunshine and the sight of NO SNOW, drop some money in the Monte Carlo, and observe the time share hawkers just dogging couples walking down the street. I also saw three , three card monte setups in action, using little cups. I could not believe my eyes when a young lady won, and she won again. Now step right up, see how easy this is. Two hours later on my way back to Harrah's, the same young ladys were winning at the same games. hmmm, might have been a team member?

Saturday night I went to Wynn's and had dinner at Bartolatta's. Fresh seafood at its best, with an Italian theme. WOW, it was superb, or whatever word is better than superb. We followed that meal up by seeing Jay Leno at the Mirage. I like his humor, clean and current. During the day I placed 3 more baseball bets(won 2), bet on Jeff Gordon the win the nascar race at 12/1 odds. His wheel fell off after 44 laps. I did not win that bet.

Woke up Sunday battered and bruised from the last two days worth of gambling. I cash in my two winning tickets, soak up some sun, and head to the Wynn for our Country Club Brunch reservations. Lots of fresh seafood, many many fresh items and beef tenderloin, a great brunch and great staff and service. Machines were on par with the rest of Vegas and I did not want to play $25.00 per hand blackjack so we head back to Harrah's and play $10.00 per hand. I finally win more than I lose in a day. Vegas is such a sneaky place. I lose for two days and then when I am ready to leave it gives just a little bit back to remove the sour taste in my mouth.

At least we did not have to drive home in the snow. It was raining instead, right at 32 degrees. I slept very well after I got home. But my wallet sure is lighter.
