Onset/Wareham rental Christmas Week
 

Help - needing a place for Xmas week - four adults near Wareham -- visiting son's in-laws while they visit there from California. We'll be coming from DC and other son and g.f. coming from LA. Want to be near enough to drive over for dinner, visits, etc. -- and then perhaps explore the Cape on our own some of the days,.
A lot of places are closed down for season. I'd even go for a hotel/motel if not too expensive.

There are chain hotels/motels and larger Inns that absolutely are open all year long - The Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich - plenty of options in Falmouth, which is about 30 minutes away -

or you could stay in Plymouth, also 30 minutes away, closer to Boston rather than the Cape side -and hotel options there as well -

Would you consider a small condo or house? MIght be less expensive than a hotel - look on sites like vrbo or
weneedavacation.com - and might be more comfortable for the four of you to relax together, watch movies, have some breakfast in, etc. -

Wareham is just off the Cape, so staying in Plymouth puts you within easy access to Cape, Wareham and less than an hour from Boston -

How far are you willing to travel and is it more important to be close to Wareham or would you rather be halfway down the Cape ?

That time of year you could be more on Cape b/c traffic will not be an issue getting to and from Wareham -

Even if you don't look at house/condo option - go to weneedavaction.com and to their link for Cape options, I sometimes use them just to see their maps and giv eyourself an idea of just where you would be situated in what towns

It will be important to be close to Wareham for the days around Xmas, but then if we can, I'd like to just move further out on the Cape.
Is there likely to be snow or ice if we stay in Sandwich or Falmouth? Would be driving back to the lodgings late from Wareham in the evenings, which is why thought Onset or Wareham might be better. Thanks :-)

It's hard to say about snow or ice - usually, the past few years we have not had either for Christmas, but I'd hate to tell you that and have this be the year we get a storm that week !! I'd say if we did, we'd all be surprised -

So maybe you should stay close to Wareham the days around Christmas and then move as far down on the Cape as you want after that -

I think there is a B&B right in Wareham center also but I am not sure if it is open in the winter. You might check Marion for B&B's also since Tabor Academy is there (heck you could call Tabor and ask for area lodging). There are some motels on Cranberry Highway in Wareham but all are independently owned and could be dicey.

A lot of the summer homes that are winterized become Sept-June rentals but you might get lucky.

Plymouth takes a long time to get to from Wareham (it is at least 45 mins because very little of the route is highway). Falmouth and Sandwich are a bit closer, but as escargot said at least 30 mins.

The closest chain motels are in Bourne (just over the bridge at the rotary - 15 mins) or in Middleboro and Fairhaven, which are both about 20 mins away.
