Onset?

Does anyone know about the onset beach area?

Where?

What state?

It's in Wareham. Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.

Sorry, thought I was posting on the MA board only. So Onset is a section of Wareham? I was looking at a beach rental on Onset Beach (I don't have an address) and I was wondering if it's a good area or if it's really busy.

Onset has both busier and quieter sections, all pretty laid back. Without an address, it is impossible to tell you about a particular property. It could be next to a bar or a dog kennel -- but it won't be far from the beach because everywhere in town is near the beach.

Onset is an up-and-coming area (finally) that less crowded than the Cape. There are a few decent restaurants in the village and nearby (I can post faves if you want - just ask - been summering in Wareham since childhood, and parent did before that). There is a very nice beach protected by the bay (few waves)that is excellent for swimming. Good for boating and kayaking too It's about 5 miles to the canal and the Cape-proper.

Back in the 80s and early 90s there was a lot of drug/gang activity out of New Bedford, which has really been cleaned up. It's a place that has the Cape feel without the Cape prices and traffic. But, as Ackislander said, you could get a place next to a bar, or you could really luck out. I'd stick to the Shell Point area or Point Independence, or places in between along Onset Ave. If you have addresses I can tell you more.

Thanks so much! I'll find out the address and post again.

Onset is NOT on Cape Cod. As the previous posters indicated, it can be OK or very close and busy. If you want Cape Cod then you should look at towns that are over the bridge. Look at a map to see which towns are on Buzzards Bay (that's the body of water near Onset) on the Cape side of the bridge would be. Your other choices for towns that have water locations on cape cod would be: towns on cape cod Bay (any that are on the inside curve of Cape Cod), or on Nantucket Sound (south facing towns on the out side of cape cod's arm", or on the outer cape ( from the elbow to the fist of Cape Cod)where the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay are only about 3 miles apart...waster everywhere!

I found out that it's the Shell Point area and it's on South Blvd. Any idea how that area is?
