Ono Family Restaurant - Kapa`a

Good news -- Ono Family Restaurant in Kapa`a (Kaua`i) has re-opened. One of the best breakfast spots on the island!

Breakfast places I like are Dani's on Rice St. in Lihue (funky, local and fun with great banana pancakes), Oki Diner (also in Lihue, and similar with more expensive banana pancakes). Kalaheo Coffee is nice.

Add to the breakfast list, TipTop Cafe in Lihu`e. And of course the long-time favorite, Eggbert's near Coconut Plantation Marketplace.

North shore now has two more breakfast options, both in the Princeville Shopping Center. Paradise Grill (back of the center), and Na Molokama (take-out only, located within the Chevron Gas Station).

Ono Family has been closed so long (8 months -- remodeling due to kitchen fire), that we'd forgotten how many breakfast options they offered.

Today we opted for the standard eggs, fried rice, Portugese sausage, spam and toast. Yum! We'll just work our way through the menu, one week at a time.

Okay...I'll go ahead an give a mention of the great grinds at Hanalei Wake-Up Cafe. Unfortunately, it's been mentioned in too many travel books (and forums!) so this tiny place gets crowded early (opens at 6 or 6:30a.m.; closes at 11a.m. or so). We haven't eaten there for nearly a year.

And yes! Village Snack Shop in Ching Young Village -- great pancakes, plus (toward 11a.m.) the only place to get _real_ Hawaiian plate lunch on the north shore. Lunch menu is standard, with daily "specials" added. Prepare to carbo-load.
