Only 2 days in San Fran...help!!
I'll be in San Fran for 2 days (Sat & Sun) in late April. I need recommendations on what to do. I want to make the most of my 2 days there. Restaurants? Musueums? Must sees? Are cabs/public trans the best mode of transport?

go to the museum of modern art, which has a great new exhibition about art and technology. stroll through golden gate park. take the ferry to alcatraz. take public transportation. cabs are a pain, though not too hard to catch if you're staying at a major hotel. they're harder to just hail on the street, especially if you get very far out of the downtown area. some restaurants; jardiniere, hawthorne, harbor village for dim sum.

ooo

Take a walk down Grant Avenue in Chinatown and have dim sum in the Hang Ah Tea Room next to the YMCA Chinese Playground; it's just a humble little place, but it's the oldest tea room in SF and very authentic. Visit City Lights Bookstore in North Beach and eat at The Stinking Rose, a garlic restaurant -- if you get a window table, you can people-watch. Take a bus out to the Great Highway and have a drink at the Cliff House (food is so-so, but the ocean view is terrific)and visit the funky Musée Méchanique below -- antique coin-operated toys and thingies. Beach Blanket Babylon, at the Club Fugazi, is a fun show, and you can check the pink section in the Sunday paper for other events. Transport depends on where you're staying. If you're downtown, take Muni and BART. Too bad you've got only 2 days -- you'll have to come again!

There is SO much to do there! I stayed there once for almost two weeks and again this last summer for two days. I wouldn't rent a car if you've never been there before. With such limited time I would use Cabs. The buses are also good-they are so cheap and they go everywhere. Go to Fishermans Wharf, take a boat ride to Alcatraz-get tickets as soon as you can they sell out fast! Call ahead of time maybe. Visit Lombard street-the crookedest street in the world. Go to the Hard Rock Cafe, Union Square-with Macys, Tiffanys, etc. the Exploritorium (sp?) the museum of modern art. Go on a trolly and cable car ride. Oh!! And go to the Golden Gate Bridge!!!
