Only 10 hours in NEW YORK on March 25th, 98, What to do?

I am arriving at JFK airport at 6:00 am and I have to wait for another flight to San Francisco at 4:30 pm. I have about 10 and half hours only, what can I do? Is there any tourist bus from the airport to take me in a one day trip?
Pls it is urgent.

By all means, take the Staten Island Ferry across the harbor and see the Statue of Liberty. While you are down there you will also be able to see the World Trade Center, the New York Stock Exchange, Trinity Church (there is a plaque at the entrance where the Queen of England stood about 20 years ago). Be sure to go uptown to see the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building. Have a frank with mustard and sauerkraut from the frankfurther vendor. See the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street (I believe it is 82nd). That should just about fill your 10 hours. Have a great trip. New York is a delightful city. Victoria

Hello Ms. Fouad; it's good to see that you were able to make the arrangements to get out here! How is your itinerary looking- and were you able to get any deals on the flights. If your flight arrives at JFK at 6 AM, by the time you get your luggage and get through customs, it will be about 8 AM. If your SF flight is also out of JFK, leave your luggage in a locker and find info on shuttles into Manhattan (numerous- usually about $10- make sure to find out return times also). You will probably have enough time to go to the top of the Empire State Bldg., then Macys' Dpartment Store and stroll along 5th Ave. shops (don't miss the famous FAO Schwartz toy store), get some lunch and coffee, then maybe also get to Rockefeller Center. You should leave Manhattan around 3 PM if your SF flight is at 4:30 PM. I would avoid going to the Statue of Liberty unless it is the only thing you want to do- this alone can take up about 4-5 hrs., and by my estimation you really have only about 6 hrs. in Manhattan. Even my suggestions assume that you are going to be exceptionally energetic after a major international flight! Feel free to e-mail with more details of your itinerary and I'll be happy to help out wherever possible- I've lived in or extensively visited all the places you are going.

Take a Carey Bus from JFK (service starts at
6:00 am and costs approx. $13) to Midtown
Manhattan. You can get off at either Grand Central
Station or the Port Authority Bus Terminal. At
that early hour, I'd get off at Grand Central,
go into the Grand Hyatt Hotel, have breakfast, and get your bearings before taking on the city. I think because of time constraints, you should consider taking a GrayLine Bus Tour -- double decker bus tour of all the popular tourist locations. Its about 5 hours if you just stay on the bus or
you can get on and off the bus when you like.
Visit their site at www.grayline.com -- or call
at 212-397-2620 -- you may need to make a
reservation in advance. Email me direct if you
have any questions.

Thank you so much for your help. I guess I would like to take your advice and GrayLine Bus Tour. I am now checking the site you recommended to see about reservations. I will obtain my luggage in San Francisco.

Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your help. I will receive my luggage in San Francisco, not in NY. This means I have good time to spend, thanks to your advice.
