One week in Idaho for photography..
 

Hello! My husband and I were on a trip last year to Oregon for photography, and spoke to a guy in a bar who told us that if we liked Oregon we'd LOVE Idaho for photography! So- we're thinking about a week trip there in May. Trying to narrow down locations, however has been tough. We'd prefer locations that have lots of waterfalls and mountains. Looks like maybe the central area fits that bill. Any suggestions in particular? TIA.

Not looking to do massive several mile hikes- would prefer to keep them under 2 miles.

Which parts of Oregon did you hike and photograph?
From what I've seen of Oregon, there is enough here for a lifetime. As for Idaho, the Snake River Canyon (Oregon/Idaho) is great. I've taken some good pictures in the Craters of the Moon area. The best place to get great photos is in Yellowstone.

Hi Tom- we hit a lot of the state. Started in Portland and headed east- through Hood River and the waterfalls, then down through the Painted Hills to Bend, then down to Crater Lake, and across 138 to Bandon, then up the coast to Seaside. The central area is about the only place we didn't get to. (Although we did go to Mt. Hood and the area.)

Thought about even flying into either Portland or Seattle and heading into Idaho from there, then flying home from Boise.

Nice photos - It looks like you may have added some blue to Crater lake.
Fly to Boise. Rent a car and cover the eastern third of Oregon including the Owyhee Canyon (SE Oregon) and the Blue and Wallowa Mountains. Cover the Snake River Canyon on both sides and then work on finding the "special" places in Idaho.

Eastern Idaho (behind the Tetons) and central Idaho might do the trick for you:

June, and some of the higher National Forest campgrounds were not yet opened.
