One-Way car rentals...
Anyone have any tricks on getting in-expensive one-way car rentals??
|
If you have a corporate contract with any car rental companies check to see if your travel manager was insightful enough to include a special rate for one-way travel. If not, I know that Alamo has decent one way rates - it all depends on where you are traveling to/from. It is usually very inexpensive to do one-ways in FL.

This is for a personal trip....no corp car contract....I'm going from Manchester, NH to New York.....Alamo charges a $6 one-way fee....

Alamo charges $60, that is

It depends on which cities you are traveling between. I will be renting a Hertz car in December one-way from SFO to RNO and there was no charge for that trip. But my father rented a car from Sedona to Vegas and when he arrived in Vegas there was an $800 one way fee on the bill. So definitely check first!

We have found the bigger the city and the less seasonal the destination, the cheaper (or free) the one-way charges will be. My husband rents one-way NYC-Boston several times a year (when there is a plane problem) and has not paid one-way fee.

$60 sounds reasonable, given the quotes I've received for 1 way rentals. But do you need to drive? I see specials on Greyhound for $20 Boston-NYC, and also Southwest has Manchester-Islip, I think. If you're a veteran, Amtrak has a deal with 50% off coach fare until Dec. 13. Of course, if you're traveling with family, or a lot of "stuff", then the expense of public transportation makes that $60 seem like a better deal.
