One Night, One Restaurant, San Francisco

We are meeting old friends in SF for one night only. Need to know of a good restaurant in Union Square area ... good bar, good "feelings", good food, good service ... that sort of thing.

We liked E&O Trading Co, it was good.
I dropped a wad at Americano for a customer dinner. Can't say it was BETTER than E&O, just different.
Boulevard is still my fav in SFO.

Kuletos would be a good choice. It's a great place to meet friends.

Kuletos or Scalas. Both on Powell St. Scalas is just one half block north of Union Sq. and Kuletos is one block south of Union Sq. Both part of the Kimpton Hotels.

Do keep in mind like a lot of SF restaurants these restaurants are noisy..you can carry on a conversation but you will find everyone will have to talk a "bit louder". I would say both have a good bar, good feeling, good food (I tend to like the food at Scala's more).

Have a fun time with your friends.

Is Postrio still around? That used to be a great restaurant near Union Square.

Postrio is still in business. They are on Post St., between Mason and Taylor. Also, just another thought, many people consider Le Coloniel to be a fabulous place to go to. Personally I have always had terrible service there but guess I just hit the wrong nights as it is well thought of. SF is not wanting for restaurants, there are so many.

During the trip to SFO last month we also ate at Scala's.
I totally forgot until I read this, so I guess it was not a stand out (good or bad).

Fifth Floor or Restaurant Michael Mina - these are a bit pricy but meet your criteria. Cortez in the Hotel Adagio is small plates and is wonderful....Boulevard is a good recommendation although it isn't really in the Union Square area directly. I recently went to Coco500 on 4th and Brannan (about a 5 block walk or short cab ride from Union Square) and it was great and very reasonable.

If you could be a bit more descriptive about what good "feelings" means to you that would be great. Does that mean you can hear yourself talk or does that have do to with decor and lighting?

Good Luck!

Scala's recently lost their wonderful chef and I have consequently wondered if the food is as good as it used to be. Perhaps not.

Campton Place is excellent but I think they just lost their chef to NYC. Postrio is also pretty good.
