One night in Mpls/St Paul area

Dear All,
We will be spending one night in the Mpls/St Paul area as we drive from Chicago to Canada and we'd appreciate recommendations of reasonably priced hotels with suites that can accomodate a family, located in an area where we might find some fun walking around at night. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but the Country Inn & Suites across the street from the Mall of America was nice. Mall has amusement rides in the middle.

Agree with "x". Stayed there and was great to have the MOA closeby. The kids will enjoy it.

I hate to disagree, but Mall of America is just a big mall with an amusement park in the middle...Not all that special if you ask me. Maybe it would be a good way to spend the evening but during the light hours you should walk around Lake Calhoun and then eat at Dixie's Calhoun right by the lake. This is in south Minneapolis. Our summers here are beautiful, hate to see you spend any time in the mall during daylight hours and good weather.

I would suggest staying at the St. Paul Hotel in downtown St. Paul. It is lovely there. Also, there are a ton of nice parks downtown, as well as nice restaurants.

Stay in downtown Minneapolis, and go from there. You can get to "uptown", the "Mall of America", ST Paul, anywhere from there. 1st Avenue/Warehouse district are good evening destinations.

**The best budget suites you'll find are the TownPlace Suites and Spring Hill Suites, both by Marriott, and relatively new hotels. There are several in MPLS. Look into the Edina/Eden Prairie areas for safety and convenience. You can view the rooms and prices at marriott.com.

**Avoid the Warehouse District downtown at night with kids. That's not where you want to be.

**St. Paul Hotel: not for families, not reasonably priced when in need of extra space (rooms are very small in the forst place, suites very expensive).

**The best place to spend some time walking around is Lake Calhoun, near downtown. Beautiful, relaxing, scenic.
