one day shopping trip

Hi,
I am trying to plan a one day shopping trip to NYC and heard that you can park somewhere in NJ and ride a ferry across much cheaper than driving into the city and parking. Does anyone have this info? Thanks!

One can park in Hoboken and take the PATH train directly to Herald Square, the location of Macy's etc etc.

We made the mistake of trying to take the Holland Tunnel into downtown this weekend...it is a real mess. But on the way to the tunnel (before it became apparent what a bad decision we'd made) I noticed a pull off for a "Park and Ride" -- I do believe this was in Hoboken -- right near what may well have been the PATH station. It's worth checking out.

Port Imperial Ferry terminal in Weehawken has a large parking lot @$7 per day. Ferry is $10 per person r/t, operated by NY Waterway.

Trouble with the ferry is once you arrive in NYC, you still must get to the shopping, which entails a walk to public transportation or a taxi.

The PATH takes you directly from Hoboken NJ to Herald Square, where you can shop for hours *and* hop on any number of subway lines.
