One Day SF and Seattle

Hi
I am going to have 1 day free in SF and 1 day free in Seattle in early August. I know I can't begin to see everything, but would like to cram as much as I can into the time I have.
thanks
John

I've asked a lot of questions regarding
these 2 places and am told Mt. Rainier
is a must-see for glacier fans. It's
a short side trip from Seattle.
For SFO, am told the wineries are good.
good luck.

Mt. Rainer is a good place to visit, but I wouldn't recommend it if I only had one day. Instead, I'd plan on staying in the downtown area and experience the flavor of Seattle. Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, Seattle Center.

Napa is fun as a side trip from SF, but again it would be a shame to miss the feel of the city. So much to see and do and tremendous restaurants.

One day each? Wow - that's hard, but here would be my list:

SFO - just WALK! Seriously, start from SOMA (can see the Museum of Art, Yerba Buena gardens), and walk the city - all the way to Pacific Heights (you'll see Haigt-Ashbury, the Castro, the entire city basically). Take a cable car down to the wharf and see the Golden Gate Bridge (great movie about it at Fort Lewis). Visit the Palace of Arts, Golden Gate Park, see Lombard Street, visit Coit Tower at night. Eat food in Chinatown or near North Beach. Listen to jazz at Washington Square.

Seattle:

If you're into music, then go to jazz alley for the evening. Visit the Experience Music Project at the Seattle Center (also IMAX there), visit the Aquarium, take the Underground Tour (from Pioneer Square), if it's a clear day go to the top of the Space Needle (ONLY if it's a clear day - IMHO it's a waste of time and $11 if it's not).
Take the ferry to Bainbridge Island (just taking the ferry itself is fun and gives you a nice feel for the sound). Eat dinner at a restaurant on the water or at least one that has fresh seafood.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the advice I am staying on Lombard St. in SF and the Edgewater in Seattle and am a jazz player myself!
Any more suggestions?
