one day in Yellowstone national park YNP
 

Hi

I will be traveling through the Grand Teton and YNP, but have only a single day to do so. What is possible?

Is it even worth it or am I crazy?

You said you're traveling thought the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in one day. Where does this day start from and where will it end? Will you have time to do some siteseeing in Yellowstone?

If you only have a few hours then stop at Old Faithful geyser area and take the walk around the many geysers and beautiful pools.

Echoing utahtea's comments, your starting and ending points obviously will determine how much you'll be able to see in one day. And, remember, if it's during the summer tourist season, you'll be slowed by traffic, especially in Yellowstone.
Utahtea has pointed out the obvious stop--i.e., the ever-popular Old Faithful area--if you have limited time.

Thanks for your responses. I am basically starting from Salt Lake City at 7:00 am. Hoping to reach Grand Teton by 11:00/noon.

Then enter YNP through the south entrance. After driving like crazy, we expect to spend the night around I-90 to the north. Is this feasible? Also, what should we see in Grand Teton?

You might be able to make the Tetons by noon. You're not going to have much more time than to just drive by unless you stop for lunch here. It's an awsome drive.

You should make time to stop to see Old Faithful and some of the other geyser areas and maybe again at Mammoth Hot Springs, but you're not going to have time to do much more than that.

It's almost 500 miles from Salt Lake City to I-90 and it will be a long days drive thought both parks. It will be scenic!

Utahtea

Once again, utahtea is right on the mark.
You'll barely have enough time to see the couple of sites that she mentions.
And, remember, that you'll hit a lot of traffic within the parks, especially Yellowstone, which could slow you down a lot.

Another note: Speed limits in the parks are AT MOST 45mph, and often less.

I was in Yellowstone a few weeks ago and they were doing road construction in several places. We were stopped for at least twenty minutes each time, so just be prepared for that in case they're still working.

If you want to see a pretty waterfall that's right off the road, look for the Moose Falls pulloff just as you come through the South Entrance to the park.
