One day in Philidelphia
 

We only have one day in Philidelphia. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

My daughter and I did one day in Philadelphia a few years ago. We packed a lot into that one day. We took the train in and had no car, but everything seemed very close and in easy walking distance. We toured the historic distric and saw Betsy Ross's house, Ben Frankin's house, Elfreth's alley, Liberty Bell, Christ Church, Independence Hall, City Hall, the Love Sign, and so much more that I can't even remember. We also took a carriage ride. We had wanted to do the Franklin Museum, but did not have time. We did see the steps at the mueum of art, but, again, not enough time to visit the museum. Those two will have to wait for another trip to the City of Brotherly Love.

For one in in Philly you should look into taking one of the bus tours. There's the Philadelphia Trolley Tour and the Big Bus Double Decker Tour. Either of these will give you a nice overview of Philadelphia. I would suggest going to the Independence National Historic Park first to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Across the street at the Visitor Center is where you pick up your free time-stamped ticket for the Independence Hall tour. Pick-up those tickets first, then go see the Liberty bell (no ticket needd for it) and head to Independence Hall from there. After that i would take either one of the guided tours which you can pick-up right across from the Liberty Bell. They sell the bus tour tickets onboard.

If you have some extra time after your tour some of the other things I'd suggest are visiting the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, or going to the Italian Market down on 9th Street between Christian and Washington Streets to experience Philly's "Little Italy."

Definitely visit the National Constitution Center. It has interactive exhibits and is wonderful. You don't say if there are any children in your group. If so, you might want to visit the Franklin Institute which is a wonderful museum with many things that would be interesting to adults and children.

Great advice so far. Philly ios a fun city. If you have kids, in addition to the Franklin Institute, they also might like the Academy of Natural Sciences which is a block away. Another interesting place to visit is the Mutter Museum, as long as you do not have a weak stomach. They have anatomy and pathology specimens, as well as medical and dental instruments on display. You don't want to miss the "soap woman".

I cannot believe no one here has suggested having Philadelphia Cheesesteaks yet! Go to either Pat's or Geno's - located across from each other at 9th street & Passyunk.

Oh yes, those Philly cheesesteaks. Geno's is my favorite, but I have heard good reviews about Jim's at 4th and South Streets.

Both Geno's and Pat's are great! I am not sure which one is better.

With one day in Philly, I definitely suggest the historic area as well, as I consider the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall as must-sees. If you get the chance, run up the steps of the Art Museum, just for the fun of it, like Rocky.

Jims Steak on 4th and south is clearly the best. South St. is a hipster type street that is unique and worth a quick walk-by.
