One day in Philadelphia

Hi. In August, I am planning on going to Philadelphia for one day from Wildwood Crest, NJ. We are planning on seeing The Mütter Museum. Can anyone give me some more ideas for other things to do for the day? Any ideas for mid-priced restaurants? We'll be with my 2 teenagers.

Thanks!

I would visit the National Constitution Center. It is pretty interesting; I enjoy the multi-media presentation.
Also, be sure to make a stop at the Reading Terminal Market. They have basically any type of food you can imagine; it is fun just to walk around! I am sure your teens would love it.

Thank you. I'll keep those ideas in mind.

The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are right by the Constitution Center. If you want to visit Independence Hall, you will need a ticket. It is free and can be obtained at the Visitor's Center. Go early and get your timed ticket. Then plan your touring around that. There are several walking tours in Phila also. Check out
www.gophila.com for acitivity schedules, etc.

One hidden little gem, I think, is the Liberty Museum.

You can tour it in an hour or so, and it has some interesting stuff, like replicas of Nelson Mandela's cell and Anne Frank's living area. There's also a Chihuly glass exhibit.

The admission fees for everything you have shown me so far are very reasonable. Thanks!

We too have 1 day in Philadephia only. It's a flight layover & I wish we could stay longer...but we can't so we want to make the most of it. My husband & I will be with our 2 children (ages 6 &8) staying near the airport with no car. Suggestions? We've never been before.
Thanks so much!

My wife and I visited Philly last year and we managed to see all the major sites in one day. Of course, we walk fast. :) See the Liberty Bell and visit Elfreth's Alley. Whatever it is they show in the National Constitution Center, it's pricey. We walked in and walked out. The Reading Terminal Market is a bit of a walk, but it may be worth it for the vendor that sells the Thanksgiving Day sandwich. Here's a full list of things to do:

The carriage rides right by the entrance to the Liberty Bell are reasonable and interesting. They vary in length from something like 20 minutes up to an hour, I believe. You'll hear lots of interesting tidbits about how the city was built, the strange old tax laws, how the first fire insurance worked. All kinds of stuff we didn't learn anywhere else during our stay.

Maybe a suggestion for both. Always remember mass transportation because us Philly folks never think of it and Philly can be overwhelming. NJ Transit has regular buses from sount NJ and the train from PHL to downtiwn is very good. Once there, the day will fill with the great suggestions above.
