The cab stand on 7th Ave is usually the worst. There is also one one on 31 st and often you can just hail a cab one on 8th Ave. The problem for a first timer is where to go since there are many entrances.

Thanks for reporting back. Glad you enjoyed your day!

It's summer so it probably won't even matter what day you go. If you're a kid Empire is boring. Take her to toys r' us, and the wax museum on 42nd street :)

BigAleinstien, yes that might make a difference as to where one exits penn Station. I must remember that--there are several exits but the line was very long and not even one taxi was there? So we started walking. I think my 7 year old liked the circle liberty cruise the best and of course the pedicab ride she thought was very cool and fun. We had a horrible time getting her to go up to the top of the rock. Just terrible!! She is afraid of heights. She would not go up to the second deck that is all glass or plastic enclosed. Very sad. The empire state building is out of the question that will never do.

I use the subway almost exclusively when I visit NYC. It is simple and inexpensive.

Well yeah we used it also when we could. Only once really made sense to do so.

Dobby, get w/ the program. diann24's trip is over already (she posted her trip report just up thread from your post . . .) diann: sounds like you had a really great day. If you can coax your GD into other 'heights' activities now an then she will thank you when she grows up. Don't scare her but try to get her to take a glass elevator, or long escalators when there is a big 'reward' reason. She can get over her fear of heights if it is handled gently. I have friends who are crippled by their fear of heights |
janisj:Ref: Dobby: You are funny!! I was thinking the same thing,"Did you ever read the thread?? Seriously?? LOL. I used major reverse psychology and promised her if she would go up there she could be picked up by her Daddy and not OPEN her eyes. We did "pinky" promise, and when we got to the top I said now do not open your eyes of course she did and she said "WOW." Still would not get close to the window sills, at all, and would not go to the other deck above so we had to take turns staying with her and see it seperately. But at least she went--
