One Day in New Orleans This Saturday - How would you spend it?

Hi, coming into New Orleans this Saturday to see The Police in concert Saturday night at the New Orleans arena and need suggestions on how to spend the day.

We are planning on arriving about 11:30 a.m. doing lunch then "something" and then light bite to eat/drink before the concert at 7:30.

Help I am overwhelmed. We both want seafood and will be wearing casual but not overly casual clothes so no coat and tie restaurants. Where to go? Both Galatoire's and Commander's Palace have been suggested as have GW Finns and then later, Felix.

And what to do in between?
New Orleans Acquarium
WWII museum
New Orleans Museum of Art
Tour of Lower 9th Ward.

I don't want to just walk around Jackson Square and be miserable in the heat.

Suggestions?

Is New Orleans off the travel radar?
Anyone?

No - New Orleans is definitely on the travel radar :) We've been having lots of discussion about it lately. Your post probably just got missed - slipped down the list before anyone with an opinion saw it - LOL.

I think the aquarium would be nice - we didn't visit on our last trip, but have been there before and thought it was pretty good.

I was there not long after Katrina and drove around some of the flooded areas - it was an amazing sight. I am glad I went and saw the damage - it was an important experience, I think.

I would try Acme Oyster House for seafood. It's very casual and a lot of fun. I know you don't really want to do this, but I loved wandering around Jackson Square; watching the palm readers and artists was entertaining. The art museum was nice, not world class, but nice. You could also hang out at Harrah's casino if you want to escape the heat.

I like Jackson Square too, but I think that if the weather is hot, it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable.

Another idea - we took a culinary tour while we were there. It lasted about 3 hours and was in the afternoon. We were in and out of different restaurants, so even though it was a warm day, it wasn't overwhelmingly warm since we were in and out of the AC.
