One day in Glacier NP??
 

My son will be in Kalispell Montana this week on a work assignment. He will have one day free (Monday). From Kalispell how should he best spend his day there? What are the sights not to miss etc. Any advice on Kalispell itself? Appreciate your prompt responses. H

Get a reservation to ride the Red Jammer Bus over the Going to the Sun Road. Check the official web site for excursions, he can pick up the bus in West Glacier, its an all day excursion

Sheesh, Reeder, what's he into?
---Brewing Technology? A tour of Blackstone brewery in Whitefish? They had computers for 'net connections.
---A Timeless Tradition? Moose's Saloon with sawdust on the floor, Moose Drool ale, free baskets of peanuts for eating (or throwing), and every table/booth is autographed by somebody famous.
---Sports/Nature? Check out Big Mountain Ski Resort for all seasons.
---Nature? Take the Red Jammer Bus on Going to the Sun Rd. Or, drive himself & a camera (with his map).

If he has a car, I suggest driving the Sun Road to Logan Pass. From there he can take a short walk to Hidden Lake.
Great views of the Garden Wall from there.
If he is more energetic than many, he can take a stroll along the trail toward Haystack Butte. This trail leads along the Garden Wall and, once past Haystack, there is a good chance to see both mountain goats and sheep.

One of my best memories of that trail is the encounter with about 8 to 10 rams.
They were using the trail like I was going the opposite way. I moved aside and let them go by.

Also marmots are in the area and often ignore hikers. I have seen them chase each other right by a hikers feet.

If there is still time left, descend on the other side and enjoy some more views by going all the way to Many Glacier.

Then, back to the grind in Kalispell via the same route. Not many alternatives out there for east west travel.

If he is not into national park viewing, then I don't know what else to suggest.
Visit Whitefish I guess.

well here goes, i can't recommend the red jammer if he has a car you see sooo much more on your own.

the jammers don't let you explore. and if you see some neat wildlife you can't stay and watch, they keep moving, they have to , they are on a schedule, no matter how nice the guide is.

if he only has one day, he should drive into glacier and drive going to the sun road, it's only a few minutes from whitefish.

then take route 2 back in a loop. this way he can see the lodge at east glacier. and see the goat salt lick on 2.

he should definately stop at logan pass, get out, look for grizzlies behind the visitor center, hike a little bit, if hidden lake is open go, but often closed for bear activity

i prefer the highline trail as it takes you along cliff faces that really give you a feel for the park,

regardless pick one and then continue your trip around glacier
