One day in DC
My family and I are planning a trip to DC for a wedding and will have one day to do some site-seeing. We are staying in Arlington but want to explore Dupont Circle and/or Georgetown. We hit the major sites last summer so we want to try something not so touristy. Any suggestions? Any other areas of interest? BTW I have a 9 year old. Thank you.

Museums in the Dupont Circle area include the National Geographic Museum (a few blocks south of the circle) and the Phillips Collection (a couple of blocks west of the circle). Embassy Row is nice to walk along.

We did just what you are talking about on a recent short visit. Walked a bit around Embassy Row, had brunch at Kramerbooks, went for Ethiopian food at Dukem & Zaytinya for tapas (after a national monuments Segway tour across the street). Our second day, we just walked around Georgetown & Dupont Circle. It's nice to see the different neighborhoods.

In Dupont, the Phillips Collection for sure, and you might enjoy the open air market if you are there on a Saturday (or is it Sunday? Somebody please correct me!). In Georgetown, I highly recommend a visit to Dumbarton Oaks if the weather is nice; the walk up there along blocks and blocks of beautiful townhouses is lovely.
http://www.doaks.org/ If you like historic homes, you could stop at Tudor Place on the way. http://www.tudorplace.org/ You could also swing by and take a look at the University, at 37th & O Streets. |
The farmers market in Dupont Circle is Sundays from 9 to 1.
