one day at Lake Como

You've been all so helpful with my previous posting. Now...... we are staying at Villa d'Este for 2 nights in April, so we'll have a whole day to enjoy Lake Como.

I've read about the beautiful villas (especially Carlotta), gardens, a funicula ride, and all the different towns around the lake. How do we take in the best of Lake Como in one day? What should our itinerary be like during that one full day?

Do we have to make reservation for boat ride or villa entrance? We will not have a car but will hire a private driver or a boat if need to--there will be 6 of us.

Breakfast is included in our hotel stay so would appreciate lunch and dinner recommendatons, too! Thanks.

I think Lake Como is one of the most beautiful places in Europe! You are staying in one of the most lovely hotels in northern Italy. Do take the ferry boat to Bellagio and leave time to explore Como town itself, its easy to do and there are lovely shops..a great Grappa shop...taste some there and get some to take back.

Sounds great. Thanks. I'm reposting on the Europe board.
