On Vacation, When Do You Start To Get Homesick?
 

One week, two weeks, three weeks? How much vacation is too much? When do you long for your own bed, your usual routine? I think, for me, it's about two weeks ...

My longest trip has been 3 weeks. I've never been homesick in my life. Not even the first year away at college. Born to travel!

If you had asked this question about a month ago, I would have said "I never get homesick". But last week I returned from a 2 week trip and for the first time im my life I felt that I was "ready to go home". I was really looking forward to seeing my cat! Did I ever miss him! So, I don't know if this "homesickness" is a function of my old age or my cat's old age ....or both!!

Our road trip last summer lasted 3 months short months. During that period we stayed in 30 something different hotels/motels along with a few nights with family and friends.... The most difficult part of the trip was learning how to operate the 30 something different TV remotes. Seems no two are ever the same.

Never. But I hate my job.

After about the third night, I really miss my cats.

I always get homesick!! I just go hide for a few hours.

Hasn't happened to me yet. But one month is the longest I've been gone, so far.

When the kids were home and DH and I traveled I'd get home sick for the kids.
When we were in Japan (two weeks) we were visiting our son, so I was sad going home and leaving him there.
I guess I don't get home sick, I get people sick.

Even when we travel for 5 months at a time, the last day or so we ask each other "are you ready to go home?" So far our answers have always been "no" or at least "not really".

My longest vacation was last summer - 2 weeks. Not long enough to get homesick. At the end to the trip, I was not ready to go home. If we had more vacation time and funds to keep going, I think we would have.

On the otherhand, I have had business trips that lasted 2 weeks and was ready to come home after the first.

I can't really say I've ever been homesick....been travelling since I was quite young....but living in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, I begin to miss my cabin as soon as I see those majestic blue peaks vanishing in the rear-view mirror.

Living in a vacation paradise filled with friendly people makes it a bit hard to leave, because there's so much to see so close to home.

I never get homesick, and I've traveled for up to a year!

I do get tired of traveling sometimes after a frustrating day, but it isn't what I'd call homesickness. Guess I always know that coming home will be great, but I just love being 'on the road".

Hi elsiemoo, I have had trips where I have been gone a bit more then two months. I have never gotten homesick but I sure have missed my loved ones. So peoplesick would describe me I guess.

On business trips however I was always so anxious to get home. Business trips are not fun like personal trips.

I've never been able to travel for longer than 3 weeks at a time, and so far have never gotten homesick.

I'd love the opportunity to test how long it takes before I do become homesick, though. :)

If you've ever been at an airport abroad, or in Hawaii, and seen a rotund lady of a certain age being dragged into a Philadelphia-bound plane screaming, "No, no, no, I don't wanna leave!!!"-- that would have been me. The length of the trip doesn't much matter.

But I always do painfully miss my dog.

Sometimes after a few weeks. Usually due to a ruff night of sleep caused by noice or interuptions. I will then ponder the quietness of Home....

Never, I am usually sick of being home before I would ever be homesick.
