On the beach restaurants -Oahu
 

Ive read the recommendations on Dukes -sounds great.
We will be staying at the Oahu Waikiki Surf Hotel and would love some suggestions of other places to have breakfast with the ocean and prefer the lower end of the scale price wise.
(also where is the cheapest waterview restaurant in the area for dinner - any food is ok - we're easy)

Denny's is upstairs across the street. Sheraton Waikiki has a breakfast deli type area. You might check Shorebirds. I think it is at the Outrigger Reef. Cheeseburgers in paradise is across the street from the beach. The Hilton has a bar and grill on the beach.

Why not get something to go from a nice restaurant (save on tips, drinks, etc.) and have a sunset picnic?

For a really inexpensive, and good, meal and a great atmosphere, you CANNOT beat the Shorebird Restaurant in the Outrigger Reef

My favorite breakfast in all of Hawaii is at the New Otani Hotel at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. It's right on the beach under an old banyon tree. It's not cheap but why go to Hawaii and be a scrooge to yourselves?

I have to agree with the posters who suggested Shorebird in the Outrigger Reef. You can get a $1 off coupon in the ad books that are all over the place for their breakfast buffet. Being from Las Vegas myself, the buffet is nothing you'd expect to find here, but it was a good deal for $7.99 and the atmosphere couldn't be beat. There are no windows - you just look out on the beach. Beware of the birds who are VERY tame & friendly and just waiting for you to share your food with them! But it makes it fun. They have a decent rate for lunch and dinner too, but I never managed to get over there for anything other than breakfast.

Duke's is also one of my favorites. I sat at the bar, facing the ocean and was able to order nachos (huge & very good) and a few panini's (banana/rum/coconut concoction - YUMMY!) to wash them down. It was dusk and the sunset was beautiful. I could also see a bunch of surfers out there doing their thing while a trio played music on the patio. It was a great experience.

I also enjoyed the beach bar at the Moana Surfrider. They serve food out there also, but as I remember it was pretty pricey. The Mai Tai bar at the Royal Hawaiian is a nice place to relax and they serve casual stuff like burgers & sandwiches. And of course yummy tropical drinks. On Friday, Sat., & Sunday they have a good trio (Augie Ray) and it's a lot of fun with no cover charge or drink minimum.

On the third floor of the Waikiki Marriott there is a bar/restaruant. On Monday nights at 6:30 they have a really good FREE show (complete with hula dancers) up there. There's no cover charge or minimum. Across the street is the gorgeous Waikiki. I took some great sunset photos while I was there last summer. The menu isn't extensive, but does include things like burgers, sandwiches, etc. And oh, the great tropical drinks! I got hooked on their Blue Tahiti - similar to Blue Hawaii but even better - and had to have one (or two) every time I went up there. I think you'd enjoy the ambience up there and the view is really nice over the railing looking at Waikiki.

House Without a Key at the Halekulani hotel serves a "light dinner" at reasonable prices. There isn't an extensive selection but the food is good. I usually go for the chef's daily special. It's those drinks that really add up ;)

The Shorebird is probably the least expensive place to have breakfast on the ocean. Nice open air atmosphere, food is OK. I've never had dinner there but I believe it's sort of a grill your own dinner thing.

Right above Duke's is the Sunset Terrace, which is a little less expensive than Duke's, has a beautiful view, and is quieter than Duke's.

The Tiki is across the street from the beach park at the east end of Waikiki and being on the 2nd floor has a good water view, prices are moderate to somewhat expensive. Tiki is in an Aston hotel. You can't miss it at night, it has large torches burning.
