On the Avenue hotel, NYC
I ran across this hotel on Quikbook, and the rate is good enough to pique my interest considerably.
I found the hotel's website -- seems nice enough. But I can't find any reviews on tripadvisor -- or here, for that matter. I keep getting the Hilton Avenue of the Americas when I do a search - So -- have any Fodorites stayed here? Very interested to hear everyones opnion of the service and accomodations, etc. thanks! |
Try searching under "On the Ave" (the actual name of the hotel) rather than "On the Avenue"
By the way, the entrance is NOT on the avenue (Broadway) but on a side street. I can't tell you how many times I passed by this hotel without realizing that there was a hotel there! I can certainly vouch for the neighborhood, but not directly for the hotel. A friend of a friend stayed there and said it was the nicest of the Upper West Side hotels he'd looked into, but that's all I know |
This is a great neighborhood and the hotel gets almost all positive reviews (the few negatives I saw were from people unfamiliar with NYC prices and thought moderate rates should get them a luxury hotel - one complained about the plug in the sink drain being a little loose).
I wouldn;t hesitate to stay either here or at the Lucerne. |
Thanks Janie and NYtraveler! The Lucerne is <gasp!) $400 per night for our travel week, so this hotel is looking very good indeed!
BTW -- would you (or anyone) happen to know how close it is to a subway stop? Very important to us! thanks again! |
Very close to subways. 2 blocks north at 79th street is the number 1 (local) train, and 5 blocks south at 72nd street is a bigger station with both local and express (numbers 2 & 3) trains. It is only 1 express stop to Times Square!

I stayed at this hotel for a week on company travel. No complaints! Great location, close to subway, clean and surprisingly large rooms for NYC.
