On the Ave Hotel

I just made a reservation at the On the Ave Hotel on Broadway and W.77th ST. Can anyone give me some info on the neighborhood and the hotel. It seems like a good hotel and neighborhood. I got the room for $125. I hope I got a good deal. Any info would be helpful.

I've stayed there three times (twice in January) and really think it's a great deal. It's nothing fancy, but definitely clean and even a little bit stylish for the money. I used to live on the Upper West Side, so I love being up there near Central Park and close to H&H Bagels ;-). It's also very close to Ruby Foo's, which is a fun pan-Asian restaurant.

$125 is a good rate; it's what I paid in early January. For my stay at the end of January, they were offering a $99 promotional rate through their website, so you might want to double check that (it was pretty far down on the list of rates).

Thanks for the info on the hotel. I'm going to be going in late may during memorial day. I got the $125 rate from usahotelguide.com. It was an email rate.

I stayed there last year, and if you have the patience to search, there were quite a few comments about On THe Ave, almost all of them positive. The room was small, but very neat and clean. Nice new bathrooms. I thought it was a great deal ( I got it for $99, but that was in February). The neighborhood is very pleasant, its very close to the Natural History museum, and just across the park from the Metropolitan. And also very close to Zabar's (whose bagels I like a little better than H&H, but you may have to try both to decide :-) )One other great thing about the hotel is its quite easy to get to if you are driving, and they had parking available for about $20/night which is pretty good.

I live a several blocks from that hotel. You'll be in a nice neighborhood, more residential than say, midtown Manhattan. You're 2 blocks sfrom the subway, and also have another subway line several blocks away. You'll be near the Museum of Natural History, the Planetarium, Central Park, and you'll also be several bus stops away from the Eastside museums, ( the MET and Guggenhiem, to name a few).

You'll be close to all the gourmet food shpos/delis on Broadway ( Zabars, Fairway, and Citarellas)

Lincoln Center is not too far away either.

There are many resonable priced restaurants within walking distance:
Ruby Foo's for Chinese, 222 ( they have a great prix fixe pre-theater menu)for an intimate, elegant dining and many nice restaurants along Amsterdam and Columbus Aves. between 79 and 86th St's - Avenue, Moonsoon, Haru, Savann, Isola, Highlife Bar & Grill, and many others.
