omni ambassador east

Has anyone stayed at omni ambassador east in Chicago?

Is there a reason you are staying in this area, it is on the far northern edge of the downtown. I have never stayed at that hotel, but I would reccomend the omni on Mich Ave. if you are a tourist.

We will be going to a Cubs game in June and a friend told us to check it out.

Any hotel in the downtown will be withing walking distance to a Red Line stop, which services Wrigley Field. THe Ambassador East is also not in the Wrigley Area, I believe you could walk to the Clark/Division Red line stop from there if that is the hotel you go with.

Thanks. Do you know anything about the Embassay Suites on North State Street.

Yes, it's in a more congested area than the Ambassador - think high rises and parking garages vs. a residential neighborhood. Both hotels are convenient to the Red Line - about 2-3 blocks. The Embassy was built about 1990, don't know if its been renovated since. It has an indoor pool, if that's a consideration.

The Ambassasdor is a hotel from the 20's, with older rooms and related problems. Great neighborhood, though, and not too far (5 blocks?)from Michigan Avenue; it's also well located for Old Town (Second City), the Historic Society and the Zoo.

If you are driving into the city, be prepared for parking fees in the range of $25-30 a day at most hotels.

If you need a hotel map, there's one at choosechicago.com
The Red line stops in that area are at Clark/Division, Chicago/State and Grand/State.

The Embassy suites on State is average in quality for that chain, which is above most. The hotel is starting to show its age but it is curently being renovated, I would think it would be done by June but you never know.

You should also check out the Homewood Suites on Grand Ave. This is a newer property and has many of the same amenities as the Embassy chain.

The ambassador east is a small, older hotel, famous for its Pump Room restaurant and the fact that Led Zepplin threw tvs out the window. It's in a nice area - close to Mich. Ave. lots of bars, etc., but on a quiet street. It is fairly close to the Red Line which will zoom you right to Wrigley. You might check out the Days Inn (I think) at Diversey and Clark, or the City Suites Hotel on Belmont (this is w/in walking distance of Wrigley.

The Ambassador East just regained its AAA four diamond rating this year. It's a very nice older hotel. I also stayed there for a Cubs game a couple of years ago during a renovation (ugh) but would go back!
