Omaha Hotels Help Needed

Going to be in Omaha Dec 21-29 for surgery at Creighton University Medical Center. We were in Omaha for consultation the beginning of Nov & stayed at Homewood Suites on Cuming. Had a great experience at Homewood & may decide to return there, but are toying with the idea of staying somewhere else this next trip. Would like a hotel with a view, restaurant on site, & fridge & microwave in the room. Since I will be recovering from surgery & we will be there over Christmas, we will be spending all our time at the hotel & are looking for something nice, clean with good service & fridge/microwave/kitchenette are a requirement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I've looked online at Embassy Suites & at the Regency Lodge, but really want some personal suggestions. We usually travel simply, but this is a trip where the best accomodations are necessary. Thank you for any help you can provide!

I grew up in Omaha and was just there for the holiday so I hope I can help you.

The Homewood is a great choice, good proximity to Creighton and fulfills your other requirements, save for a restaurant onsite. Second that comes to mind is the Embassy Suites Old Market, but it fills up fast and can be pricey. I am pretty sure they have an onsite restaurant, but the Old Market is right across the street and there are lots of choices there.

The Hilton downtown is lovely, close to where you need to be, but I don't think they offer kitchenette rooms, though they might have small fridges/microwaves.

There is also a Doubletree downtown which would have nice views, restaurant(s) onsite, but doubt if they offer the other amenities you want.

I would not use the Regency Lodge, mainly because it is so far away. Omaha can have nasty winter weather and if I were you I would want to be as close as possible to my doctors, etc.

That's my 2 cents. Best of luck to you on your surgery!

Just wanted to post that we decided to return to Homewood Suites. The manager at Embassy Suites was nice enough, but not able to negotiate. Embassy Suites was about $45 more expensive then Homewood Suites & Homewood offers more for the money. And, since paying for a 10 night hotel stay, we have to look at cost! Thanks for your help & Happy Holidays.

You're welcome...sounds like you made the right choice. Every time I've checked availability at that Embassy Suites it's always been full so I'm not surprised they were not able to work with you...sorry!

If you are able, try to go a few blocks south from your hotel to see all the holiday lights on the downtown mall. Also, the Durham Museum has a large lovely decorated tree also, if you are up for it---a few miles further south of the Old Market.

Happy Holidays to you as well!

Thanks for the holiday lights suggestion. It will certainly be a different Christmas, but we're going to try to make the best of it. Surgery won't be fun, but fortunately it's nothing serious. My husband is a teacher & I'm a therapist so the holidays are the best time for us to be gone from work. We're impressed with the doctor & Creighton Medical Center. When we were in Omaha in November we went to 10pm mass at Creighton~absolutely beautfiful & we hope to get to Christmas mass there if I'm able. Thank you again for all your help!

You are welcome!

Yes, Creighton is beautiful and the medical center has maintained its excellent reputation for years. For a time I worked at a medical practice in Omaha and all the doctors were Creighton graduates. I hope you can make it to Christmas mass!

I thought of another area for restaurants, if you are able...the new Midtown Crossing development, which is just south of the med center between Dodge and Farnam, about 32nd Street. Here's a link: http://www.midtowncrossing.com/retail/ There's also a nice grocery store there if needed.
