Rossd, I am so sorry you had the double-billing experience at Lake Crescent Lodge. Please protest the charge through your credit card. I find American Express and Visa are extremely helpful when I have an infrequent problem such as this. They will contact the hotel on your behalf (and they know if the hotel has a history of complaints such as yours).
I must add that Lake Crescent Lodge is guilty of immediately billing for a first night's lodging without mentioning that is what they will do at the time of booking. I find this a sneaky and extremely annoying practice, but it will not deter me from returning to this magical location.
