Olives restaurant/NYC
 

I am visiting Manhattan this weekend with my kid sister (she's turning 21) and I got us theater tickets Friday and dinner reservations for Olives on Saturday (Park Ave South and 17th). Can anyone else tell me about it? Young crowd? Good food? Average entree px?) Thanks guys!!

I think you mean Todd English's Olive Restaurant located in the lobby of the W Union Square hotel...young, beautiful, affluent crowd, or it was...sirloin steak was $330, tuna tartare $15.50...they serve a dessert called the peppermint bombe for $9.00...it's creamy chocolate filled with mint syrup...they're creative with stuffed pasta dishes too with items such as chestnuts and then mixed with a cream sauce...he used to make a burger smothered in sauteed onions and then pressed between 2 slices of crusty bread that was delicious.

Olives is excellent. The Olives bar is also a nice place (thought crowded) to have a drink & people watch. The food has a Mediterranean influence. The pizza appetizer (with goat cheese) is excellent!

Also, the crowd tends to be more on the upper 20's - 40's. The crowd in the bar area tends to be more hip, with the crowd eating a bit older. Its a lively place with really good food. I think the last time we went we spent about $70PP including wine. We had appetizers, entrees, & wine, but no dessert.
