OleSouthernBelle....please check in

Here's hoping our friend OSB is out of harms way. Terrible storms including tornados have touched down in her area of the country today.

Thinking of you and yours my friend.

Stay safe and put on those ruby slippas and say there's no place like home.....and watch out for witches and falling houses.

Praying you're safe dear Belle

I hope you're safe and sound and drinking the libations you've got stored in your storm cellar.

Thinking of you.

Statia Mar 1st, 2007 03:13 PM

I hope all is well, Belle. Hope to hear from you soon. :)

olesouthernbelle Mar 1st, 2007 03:25 PM

Ohhhhhhh, you guys are so sweet! ((f))

I am safe at present, though they say we are in for more potentially dangerous weather. I took today off to nurse my DH who is having some health problems.

I guess you've seen the news of the 8 students dead from a Tornado hitting the Enterprise High School. Well, that is where my (now adult) children attended.

They have not disclosed the names of the deceased as yet. The news also says 40 were injured and are in area hospitals.

The adjacent church that is being used as a triage center/shelter was the one we attended also. DH actually was on the building committee while we lived there, and my DS1 was married there.

We have friends there and have made contact with some of them and they are OK, but do have home damage.

Also, the YMCA was totally destroyed and several neighborhoods damaged, I'm told.

That town is a really friendly, special one to us. We loved living there. The school has a very good reputation. Back when we were considering moving there, we were told that school was one of the best, if not THE best public school in the state of AL.

I really hate that those people are suffering like they are right now. Please send up a prayer for them.

Thank you all for your good wishes and conern. :)

...And hold onto your hat i'2 because you may get some of this if you haven't already.

Sorry to hear about your town, OSB, but am relieved to hear you're ok!

starrsville Mar 1st, 2007 03:53 PM

Tornado warnings are out right now for i2's, kswl's, owj's and my counties right now. I hope I don't see Toto fly by.

Glad you are okay and hope your friends in Enterprise are too.

OWJ: It was our town for almost 10 years, but no longer, though we aren't far.

iamq Mar 1st, 2007 05:22 PM

I am glad you are well, OSB. I am so sorry to hear about the devastation in your former town. Stay safe.

olesouthernbelle Mar 1st, 2007 05:31 PM

Thanks again, iamq!

Pictures and a video of the damage can be seen at www.al.com

I saw the devastation on the news, absolutely hearbreaking!

I hope all of you are alright. My prayers to all who have been hit by these tornados. A true disaster.

Starrsville,
They sell that t-shirt at the Kansas City airport. If you ever change planes there, you'll have to duck into one of the shops.

olesouthernbelle Mar 3rd, 2007 08:08 AM

President Bush toured the area and spent about 1-1/2 Hrs. in the High School this morning and declared the area a 'Disaster' so the people can begin filing for FEMA assistance.

Hopefully, the kinks will have been 'worked out' so they don't have the fiasco that that agency has been known for.

So glad you are safe, OSB. During the tornado, I was drivng with my DH to Opp, AL to see my brother/dentist about a tooth problem. We kept hearing about all the devastation on the car radio.
I have to brag on my brother and his family. His wife and grown son returned home to Opp from Thailand (mission trip) at 11:00 pm Thursday. The return trip took more than 37 hours. However, despite their long trip, they immediately loaded up their truck with their power tools on Friday and Saturday and drove over to Enterprise to help out. (Opp is about 30 minutes from Enterprise, and they have lots of friends there, but they were helping anyone who needed it.) I am so proud of my brother and his family. They did the same thing when Ivan and Katrina hit. Although Opp is not on the Gulf, it usually receives a lot of tornado damage during Hurricanes.

olesouthernbelle Mar 5th, 2007 02:49 PM

I hope your tooth problem is resolved...lucky you to have a brother who can handle it for you!

Yes, there have been alot of people from alot of different places helping out.
Your family is really to be commended, esp. under the circumstances. You are right to be proud of them!

The area counties have an cooperative aid agreement (I forget what it's called) so, DH will be sending work crews over there tomorrow, I'm told.

We didn't go this weekend, as DH has an ongoing medical problem and has to curtail his activity level for awhile.

We saw a 2nd opinion on Fri. who, I hope will resolve that situation soon!
